I’ve transformed my mother from a person who would only refer to Spanish people as "wtbcks and would yell the n-word at the TV while watching cops to a person who calls out white people explicitly, says black lives matters, cheers on cops getting wrecked, and says that rightoids need to be purged and it’s okay for cities to be burned in the name of social justice. My dad has explicitly said to me that Socialism is good and cool.
This is incredible! Your work in pulling your parents leftward, let alone that far leftward, FAR outweighs any negatives from your single vote for Biden. Please don't beat yourself up too much over this, you are doing great.
Do people not lie to their families anymore? The one thing the U.S. electoral system gets right is to give you privacy specifically so you can lie to people about who you vote for.
Yeah coercion / domestic abuse is one of the few legitimate criticisms of voting forms (like electronic via phone) where you don't have to enter a private booth at an official polling place
I thought about voting for Hunter Biden so I could tell my family I voted for Biden without really lying.
Is that normal for your area? Because I'm thinking that's COVID. Normally nobody would be allowed to hang around you if you mention you want the privacy.
The other side of it not mattering who wins the presidency is that it doesn't matter who you vote for so don't stress. I voted Biden to appease some friends and family who really insisted it was important to them. I didn't enjoy it, but whatever. It does nothing either way.
being part of why Biden might be elected
This is an aspect of yourself that you have to kill. Voting for Biden doesn't make you a part of the social and political forces that put Biden into power (potentially), but our system puts that shit into your brain so that you can feel a sense of self-actualization from participating in their very thoroughly rigged electoral process and that that sense of satisfaction might put you off from doing something that might actually help to weaken the superstructure.
Anyway good luck with your family, win lose or draw next month is gonna be rough as all of this political agita gets resolved.
I get it. I stood there and deliberated over that little tick on the paper for five minutes. But, it's not bad if Biden wins, relative to Trump. It just doesn't matter, so what's the problem if you're part of something irrelevant? It's not how we want to vote, but America's not a democracy, so what does our vote matter?
I'll vote for whoever you want to even it out.
I was gonna write in Eddie Bravo, but whatever you want is probably a better idea
Do you feel you're upset more by:
-
The fact that your vote for Biden might somehow impact the election (even though this is very extremely unlikely, as you know), or
-
Your parents took away your agency to choose how you want to?
If it's more #1, then I think that's probably straight-forward to deal with. The odds that your vote will make a difference is incredibly small. And even if it did, personally I feel quite strongly that there's no real difference in where we'll be in 2024 under Biden or Trump. However, I suspect it's more #2. I know that's what I would be feeling myself in your situation. And it just really sucks. Maybe after the election, you could explain to them that yes you voted for Biden but it's not what you wanted to do in your heart and the fact that they took away your agency in this is very hurtful? You definitely did nothing wrong, comrade.
For what it's worth, you radicalizing your parents as far as you have is more praxis than I've ever accomplished.

Solidarity. Forced to live with my transphobic fascist parents that just forced me into another job alongside the one I already have without permission. Shit sucks and I need to get out soon or be forced to live in this horrible body forever
Well you don't really hold any moral culpability since you were coerced, if he starts a war or something your conscience is clean, don't worry about it
