Don't want to spoil anything for those of you who arent caught up on the manga, but I've heard some hot takes regarding Eren and how the show is fash propaganda. Even though I see where these takes are coming from, I cant help but enjoy reading the manga.
Enjoy what you want to enjoy, but even relatively mainstream nerd media is acknowledging the fashy subtext.
Again, you can enjoy watching problematic stuff. Just critique it as you go. You aren’t the media you choose to consume.

This. I like Goblin Slayer.... I acknowledge it is deeply problematic. >_>
It is less problematic than anime normally is about sexual assault.
Why do people say it has been banned in China? It hasn't, wtf.
Edit: guys, every time you read "banned in China" 9 times out of 10 it's not true. I really don't understand why they make shit up, and why Western journalist are such lying incompetent pieces of shit.

I'm sorry for the bad language, but Western media lying every single fucking time angers me.
About the show, it clearly has fashy elements. I haven't read the manga, nor watched the last season, tho.
well I frequent Bilibili and all of them say its banned and theyre Chinese so I'd assume it is? Tho it doesnt stop them from getting the anime from cloud like BaiduDisc which is basically just mega
Search in Baidu and you can find it everywhere. Example:

Literally the first link when you search 进击的巨人.
Can begin banned from some platforms be considered a real "ban"? Especially when you can easily find it by normally searching in Baidu? This can be considered a very soft ban at best, nothing like the West always paints it to be.
Agreed. But cowboy bebop is one of my favourite shows ever, so I'm kinda biased.
The question was asked recently here . Bout half of the comments are mine.
.........In AoT, the Eldians can be seen representing three japanese groups, the decadent brain washed pacifists, the self hating Marley dwellers and the Survey Core – the restorationists. The Eldians are heirs to a glorious legacy and the power to rule the world. Their past rule was one of prosperity for all. This can easily be seen as the Japanese “Co Prosperity Sphere” where a recently modernized Japan brutally sought to acquire colonial possessions in Asia under the rhetoric of a civilizing mission. Read up on it. Blood curdling stuff. The Japanese pacifists, represented by the decaying Eldian elite have not only locked the population inside of a “prison” with its isolationist policies, it has not taught the population its history (erased their memories) and endanger the entire population with their cowardice toward foreign threats. The Japanese who do the unthinkable in questioning Japans role in WWII can be seen personified in the Eldians residing in Marley (the Zeke faction) who are seen as violently self loathing and willing to commit genocide to atone for the perceived past crimes of the Eldians. There is also the possibility that they represent their asian “cousins” , the other asian countries that easily can be considered “existential threats” in the minds and rhetoric of a Japanese nationalist. The only true “heroes” are the scouts led by Erin, heir to the restorationists’ struggle. It is this struggle that propels the plot and establishes the “heroic” and “non-heroic” characters and his goal is the restoration of Eldian supremacy. As the series winds to an end I am aware that the zealotry of the main character has alienated his core allies, but I have my doubts that the story will end with an unsympathetic portrayal of said protagonist. I’m sure the ending will be somewhat disturbing though.
And yeah, faschy as fuck.
I watched the first few episodes and found it just to be a really unenjoyable show. Quit at the point that

where Eren first fuckin ninjutsu transforms into a Titan and back
because I felt like the only consistent elements of gritty realism and technological focus got undermined. At that point I was just like "Okay this show just wants to be miserable for the sake of being miserable, not because of any sort of commitment to a universe with consistent rules or limitations."
Eh. Read through some of the wiki lore and in some parts I can see what you mean as far as there being complex politics, but Titans still seem like bullshit magic that clashes with the highly-improbable-but-neat-technology shit like the maneuver gear. Like the first thing I imagined when they introduced the

transformation
was someone doing it in a confined space and ragdolling out inside the walls like a body in Garry's Mod. Seems like there's a pretty rich plot down the line but I don't think I would have enjoyed getting to it, personally.
I think that's what made me really like it tbh, but I can definitely see why it would put people off. Its brutally sad in parts.
I am still conflicted on the show because the titans itself seem to be a subversion of the typical fascist antagonist figure. They are simultaneously powerful (big and strong) and weak (easily outsmarted) just like whatever enemy fascists like to make up.

Then comes the revelation that they are exactly that, an artificial enemy kept in place by the ruling class to keep the population in line.
I can't help but think that the show isn't all bad. It seems fashy at first but after the point of the above revelation I'm not so sure anymore.
I dunno, I think if titans were real we might need tighter social controlls.
It has a fash aesthetic but the titan stuff is BS enough it is kinda incoherrent about politics
I stopped reading it mostly because of the cliffhangers. Like oh no the character looks like they got shot and is covered in blood and looks shocked. Nope next week it was the attacker who died.
Can absolutely see how it is fascist lol. I won't deny the anime has great visuals and scenes but uh.....perhaps China banning AoT is good
I think the fash stuff is a bit overblown. I never read the manga though, just watched the anime. I get that the creator is a weirdo and the outfits look kinda fashy, and yes... there's a big strong military but it didn't set off any alarm bells for me and I like to think I'm pretty sensitive to fash shit. If I couldn't find the problematic message I don't think normies will be able to either, so I don't have any qualms about recommending it. Really good show IMO.
Edit: I guess what I'm saying is... yes some of the aesthetics are kinda fashy but I've not yet seen a convincing take on why the plot is fashy.
