i've heard that a lot of the time they're worded weirdly on purpose so that people mistakenly vote for them. hopefully that's true, rather than over half of californian voters willingly voting for the most evil outcome possible.
I dunno. Kids are dumb. I was dumb at that age. Criminal justice is not something you learn when you're young unless you go out of your way. "Deal with criminals more harshly" seems like a rational solution when you're in a rule-based environment, life seems good and just, and you don't know what causes crime or what laws currently exist or how they're enforced. Also lots of copaganda, no doubt.
