The fact that Rowling absorbed the brunt of what might've been the last cultural gasp of Tipper Gore Energy at the end of the 1990s while Philip Pullman just skated on by will never stop being funny.

Virgin "This book is anti-christian because witchcraft." Vs Chad "this book is anti-christian because it literally kills God."

Can someone please explain to me what the fuck this comment is saying? I'm not even trying to be snarky or anything I'm just confused. What is "Tipper Gore Energy"? How did Rowling absorb it? Who is Philip Pullman? What did he skate by? I'm so confused.

More seriously: Hopefully she'll get her comeuppance like Ellen is doing.

Something to do with workplace abuse and labour rights, I think? I might be wrong, so take what I say with a grain of sand.

@yeehawman1312 is right. But there's also the history of her being a complete asshole to everyone: Her workers, her interview subjects, etc. She's "fake happy" like Corden. Ever since Dakota Johnson called her out with her passive-aggressive interview style, people have been waking up to her nonsense.

Ellen works with people and is apparently an abusive jerk. People eventually get tired and talk.

Rowling is a fucking billionaire and sends her writing to teams of editors and producers who make money off it, she won't be brought down the same way.

But Rowling is losing popularity because her awful personality and lack of taste are coming through on Twitter and because her recent works suck. But she has mainstream centrist views and money, so nobody in power will turn on her.

Rowling's sales are down: https://variety.com/2020/film/news/jk-rowling-book-sales-harry-potter-1234708777/ <---They aren't FULLY down, but they are "depressed" when the rest of the industry is getting sales due to the pandemic/people needing something to do to pass time.

If she becomes so "toxic" to the public, publishers won't publish her stuff because it won't make them money. It's not exactly the same, but it is the "same" in the sense that eventually the public will turn on Rowling and she'll lose money/her status from it.

She might keep the millions and "boo-hoo sob into money" through the whole thing, but if she can't make money anymore it's essentially "done" for her.

I read 1, 2, 3 and 5. They were fine. If they hadn't been so overhyped, they might have even been good.

What I never understood is how people wind up being Harry Potter fans and not fantasy / wizard genre fans. I have never heard someone say "I loved Harry Potter which led me to Ursula LeGuin and Anne McCaffrey".

It's like the hype happened because people were like "It sure was great of JK Simmons to invent this genre that nobody else has ever contributed to"

Marketing, marketing, marketing. I lived in several countries as kid and during the early 2000s Harry Potter ads were everywhere - ~"amazing new book good for any age". No other series compares in the hype it got. Someone with a lot of money and power decided to back it heavily.

I don't know if it's the House elves or the Jew-gnomes that offend me more.

I hope Dobby becomes a martyr and the House Elves rise in bloody revolution and murder the Wizards in their sleep.

Like literally who the fuck is sitting around in 2020 bitching about random online people? Who gives a shit?

It's like, Bernie lost and now we're right back where we fucking were in 2017, platforming chuds in order to dunk on them, bitching that some old white waspy upper-class person has gasp bad social views, and just generally going nowhere and doing nothing. What a waste.

When you liberals go out into the real world and start organizing, you'll be allowed to bitch about people online too.

          Go on. We're waiting.
