its really incredible how quickly the biden team have worked down the college debt thing. it literally wasn't even 2 weeks ago that they were saying 50k, then 10k, now it's 10k only from private borrowers. not even trying to fucking wait until they get into office before they start with this bullshit. i guess they don't even need to wait now that they've already won. in a week they'll just promise to give everyone who went to college a $5 giftcard to starbucks or something

I really, really don't want to defend Biden but the whole campaign he and his actual administration have been floating 10k* in debt relief. Schumer and Warren proposing 50k isn't exactly the 'Biden Team' especially since we are a ways off from a meaningful plan. Now it looks like we are seeing the details of the asterik in Biden's 'relieve 10k* of debt plan" but it's not like 50k was ever really on the table. Now I'm gonna cleanse myself, didn't like writing this but I think it's important to be accurate in critiques

to a degree this is true but it's also important to keep in mind that they're all playing for the same team and the changes in who presents what is how they negotiate with themselves until they're offering us virtually nothing - and then fail to deliver even that.

Yeah I see the big picture here. But someone proposing something Biden could do is ultimately a PR move, news headlines get written in the right way that makes Biden sounds better than he is, etc. And people buy into that spin, even here. But yeah ultimately it's all the same team and the end result is still Democrats (as a whole) raising hopes just to talk themselves down

yea, exactly, it's part of how they construct that aesthetic of reasonableness and how they reify capitalist realism.

We are on the same page here which is good, I just want people to reframe critiques from 'Biden' to 'the Democrats', especially if you're trying to agitate. It's not solely on 1 individual, the whole party is fucked. Sorry for nitpicking

thanks for filling me in on the details. you're right that accuracy is important. Schumer did say "we believe Biden will do that" so i assumed that they were working together there (though i never expected them to actually do it). wonder if kamala's "debt forgiveness for pell grant recipients born on a tuesday who have operated hat stores or coin-op laundromats for 3 years in odd zip codes" will return by the time they get in.

It's almost at that point already, I wouldn't be surprised if they add even more conditions to it, especially since the Biden admin really want to work with Republicans. Might not even pass, or pass alongside some law changes that benefit the rich even more

Means tested tax credit for Pell grant recipients working in pandemic front lines. Fucking kill me.
