"Here's some theory I've distilled into an easily-understood form, let me explain it to you" > "read theory"

I’m sure reading theory is like learning music theory without knowing how to play an instrument.

Some parts go down real well if you spend a shift playing “lets find out how much money we make a minute” at a drug store with a coworker and we pay attention to how much money comes in by the hour.

i've played that game! worked out with my former boss and current crew how much we should be earning (minus operating costs) vs what we do.

the good thing about communism is that everyone doesn't have to have very piece of theory memorized, some of us can just memorized certain texts and fill in the gaps for other people. basically making one big union out of brain cells

Reminds me of that Latvian professor that tutored Stalin in theory. Supposedly he was incredibly frustrated with Stalin's inability to understand Hegel, joined a whole bunch of conspiratorial groups that plotted to remove Stalin from power and was shot in '37.

      Personality

Bukharin's widow, Anna Larina, described Sten as "an independent-minded party man who always looked down on Stalin from a position of superior intellect" adding "There was something majestic in the proud bearing of this Latvian with his expressive, intelligent face, Socratic brow, and shock of white hair."[7]

christ, no wonder this guy was executed

How dare Stalin execute people who conspire against him during a time when American interests are working overtime to shatter the USSR! He should've been like an anarchist and allowed reactionaries, conspirators, and NATO-aligned agents free reign

oh no poor Stalin! Communism is DEAD now because people were mean to Stalin! If only Stalin executed more Marxists, maybe then we'd have world wide communism. Pull your head out of your ass idiot.

Hey! I totally don’t understand what Stalin was trying to do and automatically assume that any killing isn’t justified to defend your communist society from capitalist reactionaries!

So in other words, comrades don't even need to "read theory," they just have to put the theory into practice.

except not reading or understanding theory leads you to putting bad things into practice. What do you think happens when a bunch of "revolutionaries" who dont know what the value form is or anything relating to the content in all three volumes of Capital want to abolish capitalism? Do you think they understand the importance of abolishing commodity production? The proletarians understand their immediate condition without having to be told by a bunch of petit-bourgeois students who skimmed the pamphlet what its like to be a prole. So yes, people need to read theory and they need to understand it as well.

Practice without understanding theory is literally Pol Pot and Democratic Kampuchea. Not even being ironic that’s actually what happened

What was wrong with them? I skimmed the wiki page and it just looks like a Mao-inspired guerrilla group that got bopped by the Peruvian government

"bad" as analyzed by the theory, which you might not care about anyway. The theory is an imperfect approximation to reality, not an exact reproduction of it.
