Absolutely gutless
Nah, but surrounding area is officially called leningradskiy region, due to hilarious yeltsin’s ineptitude
I used to live there, sharing an apartment with a 94-year-old former Red Army intelligence officer who always referred to the city as Leningrad :cat-com: though she was an exception
only the older generation. my parents still call it that sometimes
Man this post got me thinking about the fall of the USSR again. I wish the leadership quit dragging their feet and fucking funded all the proposals to computerize the economic planning. I don't know how much poor economic planning contributed to the fall, but I wonder if a more modernized system could have helped against the oil crash and the like.

Still can’t believe they decided to do both perestroika and glasnost at the same time.
One or the other, they maybe could have survived, but both together?
Fuck man.

I can see the lib reason for doing that though because muh Stalin ebil, but it’s much harder to make that (already dumb) argument about Lenin. I mean they kept his corpse on ice so why the fuck not keep Leningrad lol.
The local population is trying to get it changed back, last I heard.
Back when the UK media was making a big deal about Chairman Corbyn a tweet went around like "What city would we rename to McDonnellgrad?" (Probably Liverpool)
My contribution was that we could rename Corby to Corbyn as that is the sort of pragmatic, realistic calibre of change that we're actually capable of
