Perfect example of the new generation of politicians falling for the act like rubes. The deficit doesn't matter, running a deficit can be a smart economic move for a country. The deficit especially doesn't matter for the US, whose large military (financed through deficit spending) can deter the IMF gunboats and provide unquestioned stability. This is the goddamn Keynesian consensus even Nixon agreed with. The only people who would harp on about the deficit were ghouls just looking for a reason to cut social services. Now we have a new generation of politicians that actually believe that shit and actually think we NEED to cut what little social programs still exist here or else disaster will strike.
Never mind the multiple, actual disasters striking our country right now. Nothing can be done about those of course, just try to imperialism our way out of it. Absolutely disgusting. The wholely totalizing nature of capitalism has reduced some of the highest positions of power into farcical fronts for advancing the precise interests of the bourgeois.

OK, lets just ignore the moral questions. How would this actually work? We would need to create a state-owned US oil company and then pump a lot of oil, since that same corporation would probably also have to deal with the high cost of protecting those oil fields from (probably US-armed) terrorist groups.
