im high so dont make fun of me but i saw a post here of a pic of some dorky dude sitting at a pc all crooked and it was supposed to mock gamers and shit
it was just some random ass dude dont do this shit its mean
Me too, if you want you can see my other comment on this post as to why.
And people aren't angrily downvoting it and I'm pretty stoked about that
Maybe it's because it's about a g*mer.
But seriously a lot of people don't realise that if you try to mock someone with something like that, it can quickly cross over into ableism, even if the intended target of the joke does not have a disability. It goes past body shaming even, which is already very bad of course. I just hope my long winded personal story in this thread or whatever it is can allow people to see that.
Maybe it’s because it’s about a g*mer.
Good point, it's a lot easier to take criticism when the impact is closer to home. It's really easy to dismiss something as not a problem when it's not something that impacts you, I'd go so far as to say it can sometimes be impossible to imagine problems people encounter when it's outside your lived experience. That's why its so important to listen to people when they speak from perspectives alien to your own, and why we should do what we can to raise up those voices, as a community.
Oh that "post". Yeah that didn't go well. I tried to be supportive (probably did a very shit job at it) but yeah I'm just glad this one is being received better.
Nah, I remember that. Your comments were a wonderful oasis in a scorched desert <3
Oh yeah that picture. It's very likely the poor guy has at minimum massive posture issues, or at worst he could have a spinal growth deformity for it to look like that. As someone that did look like that photo (probably much worse if I'm being honest with myself) before surgery due to a spinal growth deformity, I had no control over it. It was just the way my spine grew. By the end I had to walk with a walking stick and couldn't do anything, I could barely get out of bed and struggled to climb stairs because of the pressure the curvature of my back was putting on my internal organs, emphasis on the lungs. I was bullied all though high school and called hunchback and Quasimodo pretty much non stop. It would've killed me eventually without surgery. So yeah I know the guy in the photo is probably not going through that, but there is a chance he is, and it's a guarantee that others looking at the image, like me, have.
right :((( people dont choose this shit and a lot of time bad looks are tied to bad mental health
The thing is it even goes beyond bad looks. Even though the person in the picture probably doesn't have a deformity or anything, there's plenty of people that have had severe scoliosis or kyphosis or something that has caused many traumatic experiences. Not being able to get a job, live a "normal" life, leave the house, etc. Like when I see someone making fun of people for having a hunchback or something it really gets me in a way basically no other "insult" does (except for homophobic/biphobic stuff as I'm bi).
Insulting someone's appearance makes them feel bad, and I think it's okay to do that to a bad persons face to make them feel bad, but I don't like seeing people mocking appearances when the bad person in question can't see it. Cause then, well, you're just an asshole who thinks someone looking weird (to you) as something that's worth mentioning amidst their real flaws like being a reactionary or whatever. Ben shapiro is short, nazi has weak chin, etc
This is funny imo. I dunno, I like to think if I looked thumb-like I'd find it hilarious
Thumbs with a face painted on.
Originally I thought about putting "capital" on the sleeve of the suit, but I thought that was too heavy-handed.
i had an arm that grew slightly too long on one side and had to be shortened because it was too painful
bone deformity gang gang
Making fun of people's looks makes me nervous from a selfish reason, what if I get made fun of next. There's also empathy were I feel bad for the person especially if they are being made fun of for something they can't control. The last reason is your not exactly gonna get someone to listen or change if you're causing them embarrassment and shame.
