Like, is it interesting or extremely ableist/saneist? I have DID and have known people with various cognitive diversities.
the main topics urobuchi explores are surveillance capitalism and necropolitics
I enjoyed it, watched both seasons. From what I recall most of the villains are legitimate sicko criminals rather than just mentally ill. I have mental health problems and I didn’t feel like it was offensive in that regard or anything, but it’s been three or four years since I watched it so I might be misremembering. I thought it was a pretty cool show, some interesting themes and what not.
It's definitely interesting, it's been a while since I've watched it though and can't remember if it has any really negative portrayals of mental illness. Maybe try the first episode and see how you feel? It's pretty standalone, just introduces the viewer to the main characters and the premise.
It's been a long time since I've seen it, and I really enjoyed it at the time. Looking back on it now, I have some pretty big problems with some decisions the main character makes in the end. I may be rewatching it soon.
Season 1 is godly.
Season 2 is just ok.
The movie fixes issues with season 2.
Season 3 bored the tears out of me and completely diverged from what I enjoyed about the show.
Season 3 sounds divisive according to this thread which makes me curious
It gets into supernatural and psychic powers shit which just felt like a complete divergence from what originally felt like it was at least based in some scientific process even if it was never fully explained. On top of that it takes place 100+ years after the first series. It is absolutely insane how much the characters of the series carry it, I completely lost all emotional attachment to the series without Akane and the squad.
Also each episode is 40 minutes which makes it even harder to watch if you're upset with those two aspects.
I might be misremembering something then perhaps. Regardless it doesn't actually matter, moving to a different set of main characters like as I was very invested in Akane. This might be a gender thing though too as I get far more invested in female protagonists than I do in male ones.
Season 3 is really good imo, good enough to watch the other two even if you don't 100% love them
Ghost in the shell is highly recommended but, people are allowed more than one cyberpunk anime
So, it sounds like the dystopia is portrayed to be bad in the universe of the show. This does sound really interesting/what I'm looking for.
Haha, that’s part of the show, yeh. But it isn’t implied to be cool and awesome, the society the show is set in is critiqued a lot in-show by lots of characters.
My understanding is that it is about how we criminalize certain neurological states and a type of Philip K Dick "pre crime " Which is dark but could be really good critque if done correctly. It could also be really bad. I don't mind disturbing things but I want something that is not like, actively bigoted
This person might have just been extremely hard to radicalize. Weebs can be...not the most understanding of nuance.
