Simply fashion? Just feels archaic and out of place.

There was a really amazing reddit post about how the suit was basically a costume of the western world that served the purpose of lending legitimacy to men who wore it, and how it had been so successfully paired with the ideas of success and dignity that other cultures with completely different fashion histories had adopted it wholesale and even supplanted their own traditional garb with the western suit as the outfit of status in their culture.

I lost the link to that thread at some point, and I could never find it again. But anyways, the point was the whole design of the suit was one of theatrics. Nothing about it is functional, it's just a piece of costume that has rolled over from previous generations. So, ties.

The collar is the collar and the tie is the leash

Lol thanks. Now every time I feel sad I'm gonna imagine all the dudes I see that are wearing ties actually have long floppy dicks swinging around their necks. Hahah fuck.

Yeah I wear a tie as an accessory, something to give a contrasting or complimentary color

The tie is a holdover of 17th century Croatian military uniforms. In French it’s called a cravate for this reason.

I actually like ties but yeah they’re useless and in many functional ways a negative

Ties are a hazard to safety and should be abolished. So should the concept of "business casual"; wtf does that even mean? I've never understood it and instead of trying to I will be angry.
