No mention of the additional carbon footprint from packaging and shipping all of those extra parts separately.

“we didnt include a charger because shouldnt you already have one? these phones have been out for 13 years, i know you have a drawer full of them.”

“oh, except we changed the cable end, if you had last years model, your fine. but if you have last years model, why are updating so quickly? you can get years out of a phone, i know you’re not doing video editing or quantum calculations on this thing, you’re using it for gps, message your mom, to play cheap games, and to watch porn.”

This is the same kind of vapidity as the standard neoliberal refrain "well if you don't like the ethics of that company's products just don't buy them" where this does absolutely nothing to actually mitigate cruelty or environmental damage because it's not affecting the point of production in any way. This shit will still get made and sit on shelves, you've just gated it behind a paywall because your rate of profit is falling.

So concerned about the environment that you try and stop customers at every turn from repairing their own devices, take away swappable batteries, and have chargers that get ran thru every 6 months.

Then you take away a completely fine feature like the 3.5mm jack because you care so much despite airpods being a complete disaster for the environment with their garbage ass battery life and horrible design which leads to people constantly losing them. If you use airpods or wireless headphones in general, you're a fucking lib and you should be ashamed of yourself

But we love our cultural signifiers. That blue text dopamine hits different doesn't it, you fucking addict?

The iphone 16 will not even have a phone in the box. Instead, you get to visit your phone at the nearest Apple Store every weekend and on two holidays of your choosing under supervision of an Apple employee.

The USB-C thing is the most egregious. Every home on planet earth (ok near enough) has a fucking USB port, but USB-C? That’s just cruel lol

I generally don't tease the inhabitants of the apple prison/ecosystem by clanging on the bars each time their warden clamps down on them, because it's like telling the person in the black track suit and white nikes that, No, if you ingest cyanide and wrap a plastic bag over your head, you won't actually be transported to a spaceship hiding behind the comet passing near earth.

but one time I blurted out some nuclear take about how Apple is conducting a prank on pseudo-creative PMC dumbasses to see how much abuse they will pay premiums for and defend as brave innovations. I think it was when they dropped the 3.5mm jack, if it matters.

anyway, someone I thought new better sent me a long screed of absurd gymnastics about how being in the prison makes the mural they smear on the walls in doodoo better or something. I stopped paying attention, admittedly.

for the record I buy scratch-and-dent refurb oem outlet junk for personal use because computers are all unrecyclable toxic waste and there is nothing to feel good about with them.

Whatever, fuck big phone Samsung and iPhone and especially their flagships, they're overpriced even with the charger and headphones, and most people have those anyway so I think it's fair to stop bundling them

You're shouldn't be getting an iPhone if you're looking for a good deal, I think this is actually good even though it's because they want to save money as long as less chargers and headphones are needlessly produced

Every single person who buys this phone will buy a charging adaptor and headphones lol. I bet Apple isn’t producing less. It’s doing nothing for the environment, but they get to make more money.

Idk dude I wouldn't get them, but it's a dumb argument to have, we all hate apple anyway
