What is the problem here? It's just a bunch of people talking about their ideal future. Getting mad over this is just dumb

One person in the thread said they'd be up for manual labour

First reply to them " consider therapy"

    Oof

I'm not big into the cushvlogs, but sometimes put them on as a pseudo podcast, and one of the ones I did listen to hewas talking about the "liberal concept of the self" and how it stops us from envisioning what socialism would be like beyond "what we have now but I can be lazier". Anyway, don't really have much to say but I think threads like this sort of illustrate what he was talking about.

Yeah I feel that, I think my brain is just tuned to work like that, sort of passively absorbing structureless stuff. Really focused dense things are actually harder for me to process.

That one really crystalized what I felt but couldn't articulate about certain strains of leftist thought I see on twitter.

Reusing and repurposing things is cool.

It actually sucks that in our society of disposable consumer crap consumer goods it makes more sense to go buy a new shirt made by child laborers in Taiwan instead of fixing or recycling what you have.

I think it's just supposed to be a cozy thread, but it is curious that these people's idea of a socialist society is more or less an idylic fantasy of slighty more modern medieval commune lol

I feel similarly about all the "hehe Obama/Biden war criminal" where someone posts a photo of Biden's dog and people just keep rambling in comments. Okay, Biden is still a rapist and a war criminal, but holy fuck, it's just a picture of a dog.

I feel like a significant amount of people within the "online left" want socialism so they can put their feet up (which I understand) and envision their post-capitalism life in more of a dreaming way than a realistic way. Apparently this person will have nothing to worry about but make lattes and vibe out and that sounds fun but will never happen

    Also obligatory "fuck communes"

Maybe I'm judgemental but I can't understand realizing the horrors of capitalism and then deciding your response to that is to fuck off and live in the woods (so to speak). I haven't encountered or read about any communes that are actively committed to pushing people to socialism or engaging in meaningful praxis, feel free to own me if you know of any. Generally I see it as only caring about yourself/people you approve of, and I'd rather see comrades sticking around and working for everyone, idk. Are you even interacting with the proletariat on your commune?

Also there's a component of communes that relies on the protection from/indirectly benefits from the state that I can't quite articulate right now, but basically in my opinion you're still benefiting from capitalism/the state while also doing very little to fight it if you turn to communes

Idk why ToeCheese says fuck communes, but I've heard that in way too many of them, the division of housework between men and women is totally unequal. Hearing women complaining that the guys in their commune were doing drugs and having a good time while they were scrubbing the floors and shit really soured me on the idea.

my lesbian commune will not have this problem, instead the housework will be divided unequally between butches and femmes 😌

Gross. If we could not replicate patriarchal bullshit like that, that'd be great.

I've heard of a lot of communes dissolving over issues of financial stability or personal disagreements or the death of the cult leader but not "dudes completely failing to rock." Can't say I'm totally shocked though.

i think revolution is such a remote possibility for most people that i can't really blame them for spinning idealized fantasies about it. idk what the counterproposal is.

There have been dozens of revolutions since 1917 which have given us multiple realistic examples of socialist projects, but fuck it lets just try to do Twin Oaks again.

I understand why this is the general trend, I just think the way out of it is to teach people who think of themselves as leftists (like the people in this thread) to look for the socialist future not in utopian fantasies, but in a sober analysis of the past and the present to realise what the actual possibilities for the future are.
