John Wojtowicz was a bank robber who held up a bank in 1972 to pay for gender-affirming surgery for his trans girlfriend Elizabeth Eden.
for everyone not in the know. Now you ARE in the know
Wojtowicz's story was used as the basis for the film Dog Day Afternoon (released in 1975), starring Al Pacino as Wojtowicz (called "Sonny Wortzik" in the film)
Dog Day Afternoon absolutely slaps. Shame that John Wojtowicz and his girlfriend weren't paid more.
