The one I jokingly like to embrace is the theory that we were supposed to nuke ourselves at the height of the cold war, and that's why everything seems to be a repetition of the past few decades over and over again. The universe simulator ran out of content, it was supposed to move to the next stage, but its stuck recycling content at the end of the last stage, incapable of moving forward.
