While the packaging of Republican Party politics has evolved since 2000, what remains unaltered is a bedrock commitment to regressive tax cuts, a sharp curtailment of worker power and the elimination

All of the "conservatives" here begging for checks are just playing into the Democrat's plan. Don't you understand what they're doing?
We're going to be locked down for years. We're going to need stimulus for years. It doesn't take long to get people hooked on something. After only a little while, we'll start getting politicians asking "isn't this free money nice?" And then they'll make it permanent.
There should be no stimulus without reopening. Get people back on their feet, but then also get the country moving again.
They did that here in Louisiana too. We barely had a month lockdown. After that, all these rules were set for stores and restaurants, which are never followed. The talks about enforcing a policy for masks to enter stores was immediately dropped.
This is sort of the logic of the ruling class. The ruling class is aware that their plan in the medium term has to be austerity to get out of the present crisis. That renewed austerity will likely start falling into place before the need for relief has abated. They have no ability to actually meet people’s needs through the downturn, and they have an incentive to avoid the appearance that they can.
This reminds me of on a separate thread a lib was arguing with me that clearing everyone’s student debt was actually regressive because it would benefit some rich people

Lol this smoothbrain still believing that means testing actually directs help to the poor more efficiently than a simple universal program.
But obviously they tell on themselves, because they're clearly well-off and have never actually had to navigate the hellish welfare bureaucracies.
