why the fuck do the mods decide what is a necessary argument? the "dirtbag" left is now banning for a violation of civility? if you get annoyed at someone downvote them, like damn. mods are cops and the less of you the better.

this is frankly a transparent effort to justify increased moderating to the users of the forum. fuck off. and i dont apologize for my language because im mad and im allowed to be mad

oh my fucking god. i dont care if someone calls themselves a leftist or not i can still disagree with them just as much. particularly if theyre trying to police my language. it doesnt matter what you call yourself in that context.

and who determines if someones a leftist or not and has this protection, the mods i guess?

honestly, bottom line, fuck off from conversations that have nothing to do with you. like, just go away if youre not involved. its that simple, you obviously have a complex from moderating

It literally does mean that, the question is how closely this sites' values allign with the dirtbag left. Amber Frost coined the term to describe chapotraphouse-adjacent people who were on the left but were mean to other people on the left on the internet.

You can have a polite and affirming community or a dirtbag no-holds romp, and there is definitely a place for both, but there's no way to square the circle and get a community that is always nice to the right people and mean to the right people; that is not a fixed point in the slightest.

this is exactly it. although i would also argue that a" positive and affirming community" (a civil one) has its own methods of social control its just forced into passive aggressiveness

Either path self-selects it's own audience; the romp will drive people away, and so will the safe space (using that word non-ironically and respectfully).

i think the community should be allowed to self determine that, which it will do all on its own as it finds its identity

Its a problem with the internet and a problem with the 'dirtbag left' as a concept, I mean how many people get pissed about stuff the hosts of chapotraphouse say online? Their whole thing is being rude and shitting on people. And they came up with the term to describe that

The issue is there's no clear delineation of an 'acceptable' target. Everyone is all for being mean to the bad people, but who are the bad people?

Or even shitting on the good people with the bad takes; what level of bad take justifies it?

It gets even dicier when you add to that the fact that a funny criticism is more acceptable than unfunny criticism.
