All the new sources I know are capitalist lib/chud propaganda, i want to expand my world view
actually https://fx.substack.com/ is a really good newsletter that gives almost daily updates on news around the world, it's excellent
Normally I don't trust outlets, since they're all owned by billionaires, but since my usual recommendation of following independent journalist on twitter is not an easy task to setup for most people, i will list the few outlets i keep coming back to.
- The GreyZone (anti imperialist outlet focused on countering "the big lie of the day")
- BlackAgendaReport (black socialist outlet)
- DeclassifiedUK (investigative journalist with a focus on the UK imperialism)
- MoonOfAlabama (political commentary focusing on geopolitics)
- MintPressNews (indie news outlet, not afraid to touch subjects that will usually get you smeared as conspiracy theorist)
- The Alectronic Entifada (focus on israel and its influence in western politics)
- RT UK & RT America (yes russian states sponsored media, but they're system critics of western capital and employ alot of lefty journalists that can no longer get work in the imperial core)
- Qiao Collective (debunking the western imperialist lies about china)
- Empire Files (on youtube)
- Shadow Proof (only US outlet that reports on Assanges show trail)
- Telesur English (on youtube, invaluable to get a sense of whats going on in the south)
- CGTN (china states sponsored media, but they debunk alot of western imperial bs, also trains)
- TheCanary (uk outlet created as an alternative to the guardians fake left neoliberal bs)
- MediaLens (media watchdog)
- FairMediaWatch (another media watchdog)
- AntiWar (anti imperialist, anti war new)
- SouthFront (independent political and military analysis, since most other news outlets have stopped reporting on the wars)
- GlennGreenwald (substack)
- MattTaibi (substack)
I read the Economist every week because I enjoy melting my brain and constantly reminding myself of how the neoliberal view of the world often makes no sense the minute you start to question it. So many articles are like so close to getting to The Point and then go, "but with proper governance and boards ensuring good corporate behavior all will be well!"
If you want a great leftist news source, specifically on world affairs, I can't recommend Foreign Exchanges enough. It's a substack and they send out great newsletters frequently.
I like to read the Economist because I like to remind myself that sometimes I might be stupid, but not as stupid as the people who read it unironically
I suggest NakedCapitalism.com, old school blog with daily links collection. They are not leftist but they are reality based and don't accept bullshit. Even if all you do is read the daily links post, without even clicking on any of the articles, you will be better informed than 99% of Americans.
Pluralistic, Cory Doctorow's blog is a good aggregator of news, especially wrt Big Tech and labor issues related to it.
I aggregate between decent to lib sources (whether it be Current Affairs or Qiao Collective or Al-Jazeera) along with bad to right wing sources (the Economist, WSJ, Business Insider).
Unless highly contentious or developing, the basic contour of brute facts should be somewhat discernible. After that, there's never a set interpretation, even amongst people ostensibly with the same views or tendencies. Don't rely on any specific singular (even leftist) news source to expand a worldview, try to integrate what's being presented with your own theoretical understanding and political curiosity.
Honestly get most of my news from Twitter screenshots on here and reddit.
For in depth and historical news, Citations Needed. I listen to new episodes when they come out and old episodes while I play video games.
Democracy Now! is very good. Amy Goodman has been doing real journalism for like 50 years
The Sixth Tone (sixthtone.com) is, according the F*reign Policy, CPC's version of Vox. It has a surprisingly progressive viewpoint with Chinese professors and experts writing the articles, much better than the self-declared sinologists and Gina watchers in the West.
