Hey y'all, I'm a car dumb-dumb. How does a vehicle fall into one category vs another? How many categories are there?

coupe used to mean 2 door sports car, with a trunk and a sloping roof. then I think it was bmw (maybe Mercedes) who created the 4 door coupe. which is literally an oxymoron, since a coupe is 2 doors. the 4 door coupe just tries to look like a 2 door coupe, it basically just copies the sloping roofline. pictured above is a porsche cayenne coupe. it's a normal 4 door SUV cayenne, but they sloped the roofline. now it's a cayenne coupe, or so they say.

Exactly. The more proper name for this roof shape would be "fastback," "hatch-back," or "5-door"
