i miss when hatchbacks were practical. not everything needs to be a coupe. in fact, if it has 4 doors, it definitely should not ever be a coupe.

i mean sure, this is a porsche, it can be impractical. but like, the civic hatchback? what the fuck is the point

I didn't mean that civics weren't practical, civics are very practical! My roommate has a sedan civic and I have a miata so a civic is definitely practical to me. I meant the hatchback seems pointless since the roofline is so sloped. I was wrong about this though, it looks like the hatchback does still add a lot of cargo space. Part of me still can't believe that liftbacks are anywhere as practical as proper boxy hatchbacks, but it seems to be the case here. However, interestingly the honda fit actually has a larger cargo area than the civic hatch if you put all the seats down.

Jesus Christ you're right, the Golf R is $10,000 cheaper than the base model Macan and weights 800 lbs less

I have heard that the Macan has more suspension travel and so it has a more comfortable ride on rough roads, so it's the perfect vehicle for bourgeoisie comfort and crumbling infrastructure

The entire point of luxury goods is to signal to other people that you can throw away a bunch of money for status.

For instance, a $50 watch tells the time perfectly well. A Rolex says "I have $9950 to burn."

Hey y'all, I'm a car dumb-dumb. How does a vehicle fall into one category vs another? How many categories are there?

coupe used to mean 2 door sports car, with a trunk and a sloping roof. then I think it was bmw (maybe Mercedes) who created the 4 door coupe. which is literally an oxymoron, since a coupe is 2 doors. the 4 door coupe just tries to look like a 2 door coupe, it basically just copies the sloping roofline. pictured above is a porsche cayenne coupe. it's a normal 4 door SUV cayenne, but they sloped the roofline. now it's a cayenne coupe, or so they say.

Exactly. The more proper name for this roof shape would be "fastback," "hatch-back," or "5-door"

those SUV coups are the 2020s equivalent of WW2 German cats* - overweight, overengineered, expensive manufacturing nightmares and only good at taking out their tiers, many abandoned and blown up on the retreat

What the fuck is that roof? It's like they wanted to give it a spoiler, but didn't want to commit to it, so now it just looks like a fringe.
