There's loads of stuff I'm interested in, and when I'm reading I do genuinely enjoy it, however every time I earnestly create any reading list it just piles up until I give up.
This pattern has happened with books, movies, tabs, theory, video essays, wikipedia, etc etc.
This is just me, but I have a really hard time reading anything lengthy on a screen. When I actually want to read something long all the way through, I get a print copy.
id reccomend a refurbished Kindle over a kobo, I've had two just suddenly brick themselves. which sucks because the kobold mini was a perfect form factor for me since my eReader is my comfort object that I carry everywhere.
If you have the energy at the end of the day try to get in the habit of reading yourself to sleep.
Some days you'll cover good ground, others only a few pages, but as long as you don't have a deadline the persistent habit will get through a lot of content without feeling like you're losing any time.
Obviously, not the best strategy for everyone, but it has worked really well for me.
This happens to me too, for me I recognize it is a bit of Fear of Missing Out.
What helps is having a print copy, and then booking an hour to not have any screens around to just read. Its hard.
Then, I just have to pick a book to start with (also hard), and then not switch books part way through (also hard).
My strategy so far has been to start with short books.
I usually minimise my lists to just 5 things in no particular order, then when I've finished one on the list I'll add another. prevents it becoming overwhelming for me and it allows me to read/watch/experience what I feel like at that moment.
this sounds really good actually thanks! I get into little loops where I'm like "okay what if I just save this for if I need to find more about this in the future" as if I didn't originally find it in 5 minutes
Maybe a list where the length and whats on the list is concealed from you. All you know is what youre currently reading, and all you can do it add something on to the end of the list, which then joins all the other concealed books.
If its primarily an issue of being overwhelmed, at least. If its motivation to sit down and read, idk I got the same problem.
