You’re 100% correct in that being how retirement should work, but that makes too much sense and works too well for the average member of the working class

I think its just a big scheme to get people to feel like they're invested in the symptoms system (autocorrect I guess). when capitalists make money, your retirement funds go up. Of course, it would be safer and more equitable to provide a better retirement plan, but otherwise how can you convince people to vote against corporate taxes?

You could just let old people retire. That's what gets me. You could literally ignore the stock market and just give them a house, food, and healthcare. You could just make machines, distribute goods, and ensure the public good regardless of what the money line does. This feels like a very "the emperor has no clothes" moment.

And also, this isn't just for the imperial core - you could do that everywhere if shit wasn't fuck.

Saw a video about the AOL you've got mail guy. He's 67 and driving for Uber for "some extra money". His wife worked for AOL back in the day, which is how he became the you've got mail guy. It's to the point that you can have a stable job at a large corporation, and still need gig work after retirement age. Not that anyone should need to work at that age, but if even a lifetime of having a "real" job doesn't guarantee retirement, what kind of a fucked up society is this?

When the wealthiest man in human history is riding a ponzi scheme

So 401k retirement funds started in 1978 so... does math ... they are only like 42~43 years old right?

So folks starting work and inventing in a 401k in their twenties should be somewhere around 60's... scratches head

So like, has there been any generation since 401(k)s became a thing has started retiring en mass yet? It seems like it hasn't happened yet (but I don't follow that stuff closely enough to know with any confidence.) But I imagine that when those folks with 401k's actually hit "retirement" age, something awful is going to happen.

Either the money they need to live off of won't be enough if they retire in between bubbles busting or worse when the value crashes during a bust right when they needed it the most.

I've been following Tesla/Elon since the SolarCity takeover/bailout. The amount of shady/illegal stuff that he does and the amount of lies that he tells on a regular basis rivals the great big wet boy himself, Donald Trump. It is just incredible. Meanwhile, Tesla's entire business is based around its stock price and government subsidies for "premium" fast-accelerating cars.

What is supposed to be the point of government subsidizing what is as far as I understand a luxury car business?
