$15/hr but all of the jobs that come back after the recession are Uber-style "independent contractors" that aren't subjected to minimum wage laws

If we’re honest it should be $30. But I think about those people making $2-8 hour and this makes a huge change in their life.

The "fight for $15" has gone on for so long that it should be $20 by now for what $15 was worth when the "fight for $15" started, like $30/hr if the fucking thing kept up with productivity and inflation since the 70's, and wages are bullshit anyway

There's also the fact that Biden isn't saying $15/hr tomorrow. These bills always end up being "$15/hr by the end of the decade/5years" etc.

Plus yeah, like you said, retail chains, fast food, other low wage work will just cut hours, use gig labor, invest in kiosks. This is a a good thing, but wages ain't going up.

If that becomes true that actually helps a lot of poor people quite a bit.

    $15/hour WHEN?

Everybody got all excited about Florida passing a $15/hr minimum wage, but if you read the fine print it's $15/hr in the year 2026. The FL minimum is still on $10, and goes up by $1 per year lol.

This just encourages companies to move production to more exploitable regions, bad news. Local gentry/Chamber of Commerce types in rural areas literally brag about how little you can pay people as an argument to attract businesses to their town.
