There are lots of grievances Palestinians could cite that deserve attention

Cite to whom? Who's going to come to their aid? They've been crying out for the support of the international community ( lmayo ) for decades, and all the West has done is give Israel more weapons and told Palestinians to cry harder. Just say you only love dead Palestinians.

There is NO POSITIVE outcome for them here (except to personally bolster their chances to stay in power).

What the fuck is he on about? What power? In what way does living in an open air prison constitute having power? How does getting bombed every so often confer power? How does he see NO POSITIVE outcome to pushing back against this cruel apartheid state?

Its just the most vulgar fucking expression of the accusation that muslim states and their leaders are completely amoral and power-hungry cynics(and therefore they dont oppose China over Xinjiang etc.)

      Disgusting racist freak shit.

I'm failing to see positive outcomes myself. It doesn't seem like a fight they can win, and while they might get some measure of revenge, they'll die, and Israel will inflict disproportionately more damage on them and the Palestinian people.

Fighting oppression is of course just, but what does victory actually look like for Palestine here, and how likely are they to achieve it?

Gee Dan, what an intelligent thought. If only they had thought to tell people that they've been under attack for the last 70 years. What a world we could live in if only we'd known Israel wasn't being very nice to them.

Don't forget this is the same guy who parroted the hard times make strong men good times make weak men fascist shite. And used it to describe the fall of Rome.... complete ahistorical twatface

Again just treating Palestinians like they ought to be happy to be treated like cattle, combined with the illusion that if they never resisted, there is a positive outcome at the end of the tunnel for them.

If there is no positive outcome for them from this, then there is no positive outcome for them no matter what, and since this guy is a fucking pop historian asshole he 100% has at some point in time valorized the idea of "we can at least choose when and how we will die, and show our oppressors that we do not fear them." Its just crypto-zionist bullshit.

If the cattle would calmly line up for the slaughter then they wouldn’t be getting the prod, now would they?

This was their Little Big Horn you fucking door knob. You think you're saying anything they don't know? The oppressors will never let them mount something like this again so the decided to take some of the assholes with them. Why is this so hard to understand?

Sounds like a fascist to me.

He has a podcast called Hardcore History that, while the storytelling can be compelling, is based mostly on his "just asking questions" approach to history, almost like a weird parallel evolutionary branch of Joe Rogan thinking. He's not an historian, he just likes books about WWII and ancient Rome. His most recent series was about Imperial Japan and there were a lot of admiring words for both sides in the Pacific theater.

I liked his WW1 series, but everything after that has made me start to question the legitimacy of that series.

He's not the actual worst, but he's the perfect example of skeptically approaching politics without a material lens. He's got the right idea but the exact wrong approach that leads to wildly incoherent conclusions that, since they're not the accepted mainstream dogma, must be correct.

I just thought it was near how he focused on the horror of warfare in WW1. Something that was usually overshadowed in American highschool education because WW2 was the big topic.

He simultaneously flip-flopped between "was is hell and terrible" to "hey isn't this weapon system cool?"

He had probably just read The Face of Battle by John Keegan and riffed from there.

I think he did mention that at some point, but I listened to it like 7 years ago and don't feel like relistening to a 17 hour podcast

            He’s not the actual worst

He’s pretty close to the bottom of the barrel though, he had Elon Musk on his other podcast which is devoted entirely to liberal civility politics. Same show went on hiatus when trump was elected because he got too weepy about “how divided our country is now” to continue

This plays into the hands of hardliners on both sides

Yeah, specifically into the hands of people like him, so he can ignore oppression of Palestinians on the basis that they're too uppity to be listened to.

close the ears of many who might be willing to listen/help

So according to this guy, if you are being violently attacked and brutalized, the most important thing you can do is make sure your struggle to defend yourself is palatable for Western audiences, or else they may not "listen" or give you "deserved attention" (for all the good that will do)

I don't know, I think I would rather take several hundred captured occupiers and their equipment instead. Seems like that will be more useful for liberation than relying on the fickle sympathy of the common occidental chud.

For 70 years the whole world has condemned Israel but sat quietly by as they eradicated Palestine. For 70 years those "willing to listen/help" didn't do enough to help. Palestinians no longer need to give a single fuck about what westerners think or optics, because they did care for decades and it got them literally nothing.

I'm so tired of Liberals pretending they care about Palestinians and doing concern troll armchair quarterbacking on what the Palestinians "should do" instead. Whatever your dumbass passive idea is, it's already been tried and it failed.

I don't think their cause was getting any better before that. The fact that so many different parties within Palestine have aligned for this counter offensive is indicative of it's general popularity, and yet it wasn't leaked to the Israeli's military.

Only amoral ghouls think that it takes away from the morality of their cause. Have fun eating flesh, chud.
