What could be more American than continuing to do a thing you only started really doing after 9/11 and then pretending we'd always done it.
Flashbacks to AOC's tweet when she first started with all the homeless people that were paid $5 to wait in line by
other representativeslobbyists.(She's since deleted the tweet)
Also really cool how Vox is carrying water for an industry that is so insanely exploitative. They claim that "linestanding.com" charges $40/hr for services and never once questions how much of that is given to the people actually standing in line. Judging by the fact that they claim "entry level workers" (everyone I've seen in photos is older than 16 that's for sure) I'd assume probably minimum wage. So what's happening with that other $30?
wait, what do you mean?
the pledge in school, in congress, or the anthem before a game?We had a national anthem at the start of every school day before the announcements but that pretty much was only elementary school. Didn't have to pledge allegiance to America, as a Canadian it's just implied.
We have a pretty short national anthem and it was usually instrumental so no biggie really
I was pretty sure that had it's roots in the World War's and just continued after because of cold war patriotism, but I could be wrong.
Yes. Every single morning, ritual worship of a piece of stripey fabric. In 4th or 5th grade my teacher sent me to the principal's office because I didn't stand up for the pledge.
I’m German, so this nationalism is so foreign every time I see it or hear about it. Very weird, especially how you are indoctrinated with it already at this young age. I couldn’t imagine that, although we have of course very good, obvious reasons here to be very wary of it.
Good job btw! Did you get some punishment or anything for not obeying?
Yeah it's fucking weird to experience and I imagine it's even weirder to see as an outsider.
Luckily it's apparently illegal for them to punish a student for not doing the pledge because my dad called the superintendent the next day and flipped shit at him lmao. Threatening to sue the school district and everything lol.
i love the idea of the americans stopping being such nationalistic weirdos just out of sheer laziness lmao
Continuing the classic trend of conservatives accidentally advocating for good ideas when attempting to be sarcastic
‘What, and let that hot piece of ass just suck my dick and fuck my brains out?!?’
Next they'll be saying that we shouldn't vocally reaffirm our fealty to George Washington every time we take a shit and the toilet paper is clean on the first wipe!
Look, I'm just saying that if swearing fealty to GeoWa before taking a shit caused that to happen, I'd build a fuckin' shrine in the bathroom
saying 👏 things 👏 sarcastically 👏 doesn't 👏 make 👏 them 👏 wrong 👏
