So epic that this is happening in a right-to-work shithole like Alabama, most certainly because big Amazon management never considered it could happen there.

Arguably it was more likely to happen there because the conditions were shittier.

The ruling classes are competent Marxist, but not always competent enough.

They were unprepared, and some mid levels are going to get dropped over this if it really succeeds.

My only hope is that this would somehow spark a bigger rebellion, but my doomer worldview says that it will not.

See unions only hurt jobs. That's why workers should never work together, ever.

Voting ends at the end of March to give sufficient time for all to respond as far as I’m aware

End of MARCH? Wow, that's honestly ridiculous. So really this means "to give sufficient time for Amazon to find a way to shut this down or fire everyone involved"

No it’s actually a very good thing because it allows people to vote who otherwise may have been inconvenienced by Amazon fucking around with shifts or trying to disallow certain forms of voting

Amazon already tried to limit the voting form and window of time it takes place but they were overruled. This window of time was requested by the workers

Interesting. All of my experience with union votes and strikes and such are basically "do them as fast as possible before there is time to retaliate" but if this is what the workers and union think is the best path then it must be. I really hope it works out

That’s what I wondered at first as well but I trust that the workers have a better feel on this than I do. The only logical conclusion I can come to here is that Amazon wanted to shorten the window because union talks are gaining momentum

Exactly, they don't want people to have the time to see all the positive support for this. They want their anti-union propaganda to have the most weight it can as its something they have been cultivating. More time to think about the vote gives workers more time to be brought up to speed on what it actually means to organize instead of just voting on preconceived assumptions.

My take is that it's bad because I'm bored & curious and I'd like to know the results tonight.

Itd be nice if anything good happens in this shithole for once but Im not optimistic. Living here is like a black hole for optimism.
