Geoengineering was inevitable. It's the laziest way out. Also it could have the side effect of turning the sky orange, completing our transition to Blade Runner 2049 Hellworld.

On the one hand it would make the earth uninhabitable. On the other hand we'd get like a week of glare-free gaming.

It was a cop-out to talk about this 20 years ago, but now it's necessary even if the Green New Deal passes tomorrow... in every country...

I'm sure it'll have horrific, vicious side effects though 🙃

One of the major criticisms of sulfur seeding is that it will reduce agricultural productivity somewhere, and like, the best bang for your buck is in the global south...

Let’s not pretend that geoengineering is going to be done with the global south in mind.

You're probably right, but geoengineering is like nuclear power or firearms - useful and ultimately necessary, but not something I trust in the hands of private interests.

My problem isn't with geoengineering, it's that they're using geoengineering as a bandaid while not stopping any of the destruction

The propaganda has already gotten to you I see. These kinds of proposals are nothing more than new avenues for profitting of a self inflicted crisis. It's an excuse to do nothing about the problem and it only exists to keep capitalism going. First capitalism needs to end, then we'll talk about geo engineering.

So uh the Naomi Klein book which discussed this (This Changes Everything) said that the dust plan might be good for Europe but increase drought in parts of Africa. Was that fearmongering or a completely different thing or did they solve that? Cos that's the main thing I remember about the send particles into the atmosphere plan from the book - all the scientists taking drought in Africa as an uncomfortable, pesky side effect.

I remember when people used to laugh at me when I tried to talk about the Air Force spraying chemicals into the atmosphere near the ocean borders of the US to shield radar signals from detecting military activity.

Now the same basic technology is seeing...civilian use.
