Imagine graduating college this summer and trying to start a career. Maybe you take a remote, unpaid internship somewhere. Its all zoom calls and phone calls. Whatever comes after this pandemic is going to be close to economic desolation for so many young people, with nothing better to do than organize, make videos/podcasts, protest and try to figure out ways to change that system.
That's a pretty good point. Not gonna say it's a bad thing that people live long, but it's still an interesting point. People live to approximately 66 in currently-existing hunter-gatherer societies, which is also the global average. In rich countries today, of course, the average is ~80.
This surely has some effects when it comes to slowing down change. Which isn't always bad, but might not be great during a time when we need rapid social change.
when you have a bunch of un-self-aware rabidly conformist religion infested morons hostile to the very concept of learning and growth, old age gains them nothing but an accumulation of vices.
Hahahahaha ya. What a miserable, navel-gazing cycle to be trapped in for your whole life. o7's to all the un-self-aware rabidly conformist religion infested morons goin' out in style o7
old people can be pretty cool if they've lived lives comitted to learning and growth and discovery and self improvement. its something very easy to forget when interacting with boomers all fucking day.
oh no, im saying boomers are trash and im very happy they're fucking dying.
but there's hope for us. I remember my silent/greatest generation grandparents who were.... pretty mixed, but sometimes VERY cool in ways I've never seen from a boomer. maybe the secret is killing nazis, and its killing nazis that makes you age well? I dunno. but just to be sure...
this is true; there may be some cultural spillover from spending so much time around people who killed nazis. which is also good. we need to kill more nazis. for science.
Did you see that map of voting by age in the UK election? Obvs, labour lost.
But, break it down by age. If only ppl 35 and under voted, Labour would have won all 600 of the seats in parliament.
Like, I have never seen a blowout as massive as that, and it makes me extremely hopeful for the future.

Luckily that cuts both ways, by preventing buy in to the social structure by the young middle-class, they now have 2 generations of rabid lefties.
It's true, young ppl are radicalized af, and we're gonna tear it up in a few short years :red-fist:

Yup. Artists have always been denigrated under capitalism for that exact reasons: we're dangerous.

Here's hoping that today's young people don't vote like old people when they themselves turn old.

Yep, it's not a real thing. Cultures change over time, but people? Not so much.

Silent generation didn't kill nazis but their parents did.
sorry, are you arguing AGAINST killing nazis?
No? Just saying that if they were wartime age they would be in the greatest generation

Ya I'm onboard with you there, my grandparents were silent generation and mostly cool so it's worth a shot
we have nothing to lose but our nazis.
