Job requierement: having a pulse. All they wanted to know is my name and when I could start. Will lose the job when the pandemic ends or case rates drop below a certain point but that's kind of a win-win. So yeah, my legs hurt from standing all day after sitting around for the last twelve months but I feel very lucky and happy nonetheless.

Working at an elementary school, looking after children who can't stay at home because their parents are essential workers.

Got my appointment for next week today. Didn't help me get it but I'm eligible because of the job.

Usually babysitting jobs at schools are reserved for rich white girls and grandmas, at least according to people I know who work in schools.

Aaaaah. I'm not in the US and don't know how it's here. There are more women teachers and babysitters here but I got the impression that they were just looking for anyone at all.

Been a guy working in Childcare for over 15 years, never once did I have any allegations against me for being a guy in that field, even when working in a region with pretty demarcated gender roles.

In fact, when I was the only guy in childcare in that whole region, I quickly became known as one of the best people to look after babies/toddlers/kids.

No guy I know from the field has received any negative gendered assumptions about being in childcare.

I think the whole fear of being labelled a pedo is exaggerated.

Actually no. We have very few private schools where I live.

I think it's actually a good idea to allways try to call or show up in person first. (If they don't specifically discourage it) Not a lot of people are doing it and the boomers that run things love that shit.

At my first uni job somebody tried to wander in and ask for a job. This resulted in them forcing the industrial park to keep the gate closed and posting a guard to deter people.

Happened again at my first office job. Someone wandered in and made it all the way to the GM.

It resulted in them putting another security gate in Before reception, sectioning off the floors with different passes, and making one area walled off with another checkpoint where you had to give them your phone for no reason.

No. To be fair the first job involved hazardous materials handling so wandering in was not a good idea.

Yeah okay I wouldn't try to wander into an uranium enrichment facility lol. I was thinking more of jobs where you didn't really need any prior qualifications. Like working at a supermarket or gym or whatever. If you have to send them your CV and master thesis anyway it's probably easier to write an email from the get go.

Oh, it didn't have any required qualifications, you could just hurt yourself without proper gear.

I've never had a job that didn't require a CV, I guess there's a few independent shops that do that, but all the big Supermarket Chains and Fast Food places require you to apply through their online jobs portal.

Technically they are creating jobs by making the company hire security guards.

Damn. What a great thing. I hope it gives you plenty of time to figure out something for after the pandemic. In the meantime, don’t let anyone tell you that you don’t deserve every goddamn cent.

I probably want to become a teacher (but for older kids) so this is close to the perfect job until I can apply for collage in the fall. Makes me kind of sad that I would teach classes that are twice or thrice the size of the one I'm "teaching" now, though.
