It's amazing they can do this at the snap of a finger but raising the age of consent from 14 is like pulling teeth.
Come on, China.
Why is there a hold out, though, and why are publications only suggesting to raise it to 16?
Theres three things that usually are meant in law when talking about consent. One is consent by age difference, in the US several states have consent laws that go as young as 11 based on the age difference of the older person. China doesn't have this. Two is consent in a non authority position relationship, in the US a few dozen states have that at 16, China has it at 14, which is being proposed to raise to 16. Then third is unlimited consent, which is just the general consent which is 18 in China, tho its 16 in many places around the world including many us states.

I'm shocked that the person who brought up another topic out of nowhere to bash China was doing so in bad faith and misrepresented the facts!
i mean its an actual problem as the laws about consent regarding relationships can often lead to abuses, but yeah like thats how things are in like most countries right now so its not exactly specific to China. Its the same law currently as in Germany, Italy, Austria, Hungary, and Portugal to name a few
The way that the other user worded their initial comment made it seem that they were talking about "unlimited consent" and that, like, 40 year-olds could in China legally prey on 14 year-olds.
40 year olds can still pursue 14 year olds if they aren't a coach or teacher.
Wealth is good; it's the distribution of wealth that's the problem.
This is literally what Orson Welles warned us about in his book 1948.
first they came for the most powerful and wealthy people and i was silent 😔
as far as I understand this only applies to chinese users. so that shit can still go on here.
