I have issues with sleep walking and have moved into a place with roommates and I think it kinda freaks them out finding me asleep in places in the house besides my room in the morning. Doesn’t help my room gets kinda warm so I generally don’t have a lot of clothes on.

If I put a lock on the door is sleep zombie me gonna be smart enough to open it or will I just go back to bed?

my relative who sleep-walked would scare the living daylights out me as a kid when I'd stay up til like 7am on a summer's night in the den only to hear their bedroom door (which was connected to the den) open and witness shit like: them walking out perfectly normal, go up into the kitchen, grab a knife out of a drawer and open the fridge, shut the fridge and then walk back down into the den -- knife in hand -- before falling back asleep inexplicably on the couch. So uh maybe?

That genuinely was the scariest time and the only notable sleepwalking they ever did haha. Usually they'd just come out and lay down on the couch or stand in their doorway for a second before turning around and shutting their door. At the time I was like 9-10 and just wanted to continue grinding on Flyff so I didn't really pay them much mind when they initially came out and my younger sibling started getting weirded out; but when they came back down into the den with the knife I remember freaking out and calling their name in confusion but they immediately went for the couch. Haha we woke them up not five minutes after and told them the story. Being older, of course, they just replied with something along the lines of "if only I'd gone through with it" before heading back into their room to sleep.

Maybe you start sleep-banging on the door and screaming: Let me out! Let me out! Ahhhhhhh

I actually have a history of night terrors. I've freaked out several girlfriends by waking up and screaming my ass off, and then just falling back to sleep.

I think I should talk to a sleep doctor. Are sleep doctors a thing?

        Yeah they’re definitely a thing, but I don’t know what they’re called.

I think they have you sleep in a medical facility with nurses or grad students watching you all night or something; it’s been recommended I see one for sleep apnea because apparently I just stop breathing in my sleep sometimes.

Yeah I apparently get apnea as well. At least I've had people tell me I can snore really loud and then start gasping. But it's not consistent, some nights I sleep like a babe and others I'm choking on my own throat.

For sleep apnea they don't require you to stay overnight, you just attach a little oxygen sensor to one of your fingers before you go to sleep and they check the data it gathered.

yes. most of it is psychiatric related. (no shame get that taken care of it's analogous to orhtopedic injury) and some orthopedic issues: large weight, cardiovasuclar, etc.

epsworth sleep scale, apnea, etc. just tell your general practitioner you have night terrors and work with them. they will know who to make the referral to

Depending on what kind of sleep walking you do it might not help.

You should go to a sleep clinic if you can.

I don't sleepwalk but my younger sister does. These are the two craziest things she's done:

My sister and I are making food late in the kitchen , when my sleepwalking sister, maybe 5 or 6 at the time, crawls around the corner. She's on all fours, not her knees but her feet. She charges us and growls, and we leap back in surprise. Snarling, she sprints through the open kitchen, exiting on the other side. Then, she pulls down her pants and takes a long piss in a doll cradle. She finishes her business, becomes aware of her surroundings, wakes up, and starts bawling her eyes out.

Late-night I'm in the kitchen making a PB&J sandwich. The house we're living in is tiny, too small for all 8 of us, so some of us sleep on the couches. My sister is snoring in the living room, adjacent to the kitchen. I put the pieces of bread together and lift them to my mouth. Just before I take the first bite my sister yells "PUT THAT DOWN!" and I throw the sandwich onto the counter like I had a gun pointed at my head. I look over, and she's still asleep.

Now that I've told those stories back to back I feel like my sister just guards the kitchen in her dreams.

I would wander out of the front door and in to the hallway, so I put a bucket filled with water in front of the door. I will step in it or have to move it and this stops me.

Damn I’m gonna have to put an ancient Mesopotamian riddle on my door I have to solve

The answer is: yes, definitely. I once woke up in the street, and that required I go through at least three doors, one being locked.

The lock probably won't stop you. I used to sleep walk and I could go up and down the ladder on my loft bed and open doors and end up sitting in chairs in completely different rooms.

I'd be careful locking yourself in your room in case something like a fire occurs, you want to be able to get out quickly y'know?

Can you just put something in the way? Like maybe a rope line across the door frame that you can deal with if cognizant but just smacks you in the head if you try to walk through it

I have other means of egress, they may just involve spraining an ankle. But if fire I could do it

Absolutely. People do all kinds of shit when they are sleepwalking.
