Megan Merkle (sp?) who is married to Prince Harry did an Oprah interview where she revealed that the family was worried her baby would be too dark skinned among other racist shit.

Megan Merkle too dark... they really believe a single drop of melanin will collapse the whole aristocracy.

There's many people here who are darker and we're considered white lmao

EDIT: Our version of Hillary Clinton for example: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dora_Bakoyannis

It's extra funny because Phillip comes from the Greek royal family except the Greek royal family is a bunch of German/Danish weirdos who just showed up after the country's liberation and were like "Hallo, vee are seiner royals now! Mein name is Glucksburg, king of zee Greeks!" and somehow this was a thing for like a century, and lots of "patriotic" chuds still go nuts about them.

In Denmark the Greek Glücksburgs are still referred to as kings and princes and whatnot of Greece, a country who explicitly decided not to have a monarchy.

It's like saying you're still dating someone who publicly dumped you.

Yeah they larp as princes themselves a lot, even when they come here, it is really embarrassing. Thankfully they are almost universally ignored. It's not even recent, it's been like half a century since we had a monarchy. Half of them weren't even born then. So I guess it's kinda like not just saying you're dating someone who publicly dumped you, but also your children with someone else calling the person who dumped you "mom".

Yeah kind of. At first Greece was founded as a democracy but conflict led to the first governor of the Hellenic State Kapodistrias being murdered. This was followed by unrest at which point the 3 Great Powers had a convention and thought "hey, there is this 17 year old Bavarian prince who is kind of sort of related through his father to some Byzantine king who lived 400 years ago, we should make him king". Eventually he was deposed and exiled so they introduced a new Danish king, only that time they at least gave a couple different options for the National Assembly to chose from. BTW they turned out to be worse than Otto.

Correction, German royal (if you're talking about Otto which I assume you are). But I wouldn't say he is a national hero exactly, and that was post revolution. The one person who almost fits that profile would be Lord Byron, but he wasn't a royal, and he was more similar to the American leftists who go to fight in Rojava etc, and he is definitely justified to be thought of as a national hero.

Love them tho and their anarchists are still based.

Our anarchists are annoying and infiltrated af. The reason people think they are based is because Greece has a really long history of low tolerance towards police and protests are very normalised, so it is a lot easier and more acceptable for people to clash with police. Most of the time black bloc anarchists just make shit harder for everyone though because they clash with leftists, attract cops at really inopportune times and places and give them excuses and justifications to make repression more harsh.

BTW Otto was 17 when he became king of Greece. They literally just came and said "here's a little kid, he's your king now".

Nah no need to. I don't expect people from the other side of the world to be highly knowledgeable of everything going on here. In fact most people here aren't even that knowledgeable lol.

But yeah it was definitely super weird. Greece only became independent thanks to it serving the interests of the 3 "Great Powers", France, Britain and Russia. So throughout its early modern history it was dependent on them. Meanwhile they were competing with each other which translated into lots of shit flinging and unrest in Greece because that's what happens when 3 different countries are competing for influence. So every now and then they were like "OK shit is getting weird here, here, have a new king appointed by us".

Royal family trees are more like family pretzels.
