I live in the traditional homeland of several dog eating cultures. Most of those people were violently removed long ago, and I think there's little to no dog eating happening in their communities now. However, thinking about this history led me to conclude long ago that eating dog meat was no different than eating any other kind of meat.

Apparently I have internalized this ambivalence towards eating dog meat so deeply that I thought we were making fun of people who thought eating dog 🐕 meat was bad.

Why have I spent so much time thinking about eating dogs?

      I need to log off.

This whole struggle sesh has made me realize I’d eat a dog if it was on a sufficiently pompous restaurant menu

I would've thought some part of SE Asia where I've got family in. It's fairly interesting watching the western concept of valuing all dog life move through Asia and change the cultures a bit.

I'm not even sure how old the western attitude is. I've read first hand accounts of travelers on the western plains (US) eating dog in the camps they would visit. It was portrayed as somewhat exotic, but not really a big deal.

I'm gonna blame Hollywood for this one since it seems like something that'd come from their ability to create mono-cultural beliefs shared across the states.

That's not a western concept, it's like a landed victorian gentry concept.
Swiss farmers STILL eat dog in the 21st century. not that there's anything wrong with that

This link is to a Wapo article about eating cat and dog for Christmas in Switzerland:

                https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/worldviews/wp/2014/11/27/swiss-under-pressure-to-ban-the-eating-of-dogs-and-cats/?outputType=amp

Some people would like to ban it, but apparently not many.

My own thought is that the Swiss are irredeemably uncivilized, but not because of what animals they choose to eat.

Ah, Ohio then. Yes, dog meat and Monster Energy is the state dish

I joke, of course. Heroin and Monster Energy is the state dish

Where I live they were eating much finer dogs than you can find in Ohio. But credit is due where it's due. You guys are way better at doing hard drugs.

      *one guy.

He's responsible for like all the posts bar one. Idk Im a Vegan and the whole thing just really fucking upsets me, as someone who will yell at people about Pugs if you get me started, like I really don't see the humour at all. I just find the whole thing super upsetting and the kind of Vegan "gotcha" point that doesn't mean shit to omnis anyway. I think I'm just messed up because it upsets me and I'm not being fair on the whole thing but like, if I wanted to see images and stories of slaughter and raw meat, I would be looking at subs about butchery and meat cooking and I don't because I'm a Vegan who hates that shit.

Idk, I just heard of this today, but I'm vegan and I think its a pretty clever bit because it seems to be very successful at riling chuds up enough that they start contorting themselves to try and justify farming dogs to avoid criticising farming pigs, cows, etc

I don't think it has to have any more importance or meaning in persuading people than just baiting morons into showing themselves to be morons, which is always funny

EDIT: This sinophobic beauty from r/antivegan for example:

I love how they think that the “are you okay with people eating dogs” point is such a checkmate. Bitch of course I’m okay with it, just humanely harvest the dogs. The reason I’m against eating dogs in Chinese markets is because of the abusive conditions they’re put through.

Like I said, it upsets me which likely clouds my judgement when it comes to looking at it objectively. To me, sure it'll role up some anti vegan, "carnivore diet" chuds. But for the vast majority of people, they don't see them as the same and this isn't going to convince them they are. They'll just go "nah it's different" and find the in your face, gross imagery to be another reason they "don't like vegans".

But like I said, sensitive area for me and maybe my own repulsion and nausea towards it is making it impossible for me to see any benefits/positives from it.

Eating dogs is precisely as wrong as eating any other animal.

r/DogDiet on Reddit rose as a r/VeganCircleJerk bit and the admins banned for "violence" in 3 days despite it posting nothing but joke images.

    See it's sequel sub, https://www.reddit.com/r/caninecuisine

Meanwhile, r/butchery remains unbanned, as does any other sub about killing other animals.

Then a few people posted about it here, because we have a lot of vegans and you're not really leftist unless you stand for animal rights.

People's material conditions would improve if we stopped wasting so much resources on meat and used the plants we grow to feed more people, especially those food insecure under the current system.

Some people posted memes pointing out how gross talking about meat but replacing cow or pig with dog is for americans culturally, to make the point that actually there's no difference, you should be just as horrified regardless. Probably a good point, but also there are better ways to use to convince people, this was always going to and did just make everyone defensive and pissed off so no one learned anything

Then a bunch of other folks decided they'd just lean into it and be parodies of bloodmouth carnivores and be real fuckin weird with it, the whole thing is dumb and I'm just ignoring it at this point

Idk, I've read a lot of theory and if there's one thing Kropotkin and Stalin agreed on it was that eating dogs is cool and good.

Trust me, I've read it in their works. If you don't believe me its cause you haven't read enough theory. And no, I won't tell you which works to look at.
