the greenhouse gas footprint of the Beef industry is so, so, so much higher than any other food production. It's something like 4x that of pork.

We use California pistachios that aren’t native and generate so much water waste because of our embargo with Iran where they are native (where I believe they cause less of a carbon footprint but I’m not sure) the answer to who is a bigger asshole is as always, the US government
ehhh this type of comparison is of limited value. Yes, you need more water to farm nuts than seeds, but it's not like the water is absorbed into the nut and is gone forever. It goes down into the water table to be used again or evaporates.
The real question, in terms of environmental impact, is how much carbon is spewed into the air harvesting, transporting, storing etc.
Sunflower seeds are more different in water usage from pumpkin and watermelon than they are from peanuts. Yet it's supposed to prove seeds are so much better. 13 gal difference vs 34 and 32 gal. Don't try to use math on me I know how to math.
