This is really awesome and I'm happy to finally have my favorite subreddit back but, y'know, not on reddit. However, we need more people here. I know the discord still has people making the jump and all, but we really should work out ways of making this more publicly known. I dream of the day when there are thousands of people posting hog.
I have my concerns about that as well. I actually do really like the design here, but I'll admit that after looking at TD's reddit alternative they made a smart decision by basically copying the exact layout and design of reddit. This forum, while similar, feels different and idk if people will be comfortable making the jump. The other thing is mobile users. I basically always use reddit on my phone, it's just the easiest way. Without having a good mobile client for Lemmy it's a bit harder to use. I tried looking around and couldn't find anything quickly. Luckily, the mobile version of the site is pretty decent, but an actual client would definitely be ideal.
(Oh and no offense to mods but the communities thing is dumb af, we don't have the user base to support that atm and I don't want everything to be fractured)
Community roll out is gonna be pretty slow. But it's a necessary feature: this isn't an alternative to /r/ChapoTrapHouse, it's an alternative to Reddit.
You know, I didn't think about it that way, but that makes me happy. Maybe I can just get rid of that shitty site lol
Imagine Reddit, but entirely Chapo users.
Oh no, what have we done?
Inshallah.
So much hog :drooling face:

Well, they did disable new community creation for the time being, so it seems like you're on the same page.
Yeah, we want time to fix the kinks in the system and get more people on the website. Being able to make your own community is part of what made Reddit good, and more communities means more roads of intersectionality!

This isn't just a sub alternative. This will eventually be able to support a huge coalition of leftists and tendencies without techbro censorship. Have faith in your comrades
Maybe should've picked a different name then
I completely agree about everything! I wonder how hard it would be to make a super simple web wrapper app that just opens the lemmy (like some newspapers have)? I'm much more of a game programmer than an app one but I guess I could take a look.
And yeah, interestingly enough I think the communities thing is actually one of the few things that worked better on Discord with the channels, with the relatively slow trickle of new replies in the individual channels working better as an ongoing discussion vs. hypothetically a trickle of thin posts.
In theory it is simple, and the Rust back-end of Lemmy provides a REST API for something like that to be built off of, but it is work.
