a game about post war america with 50's aesthetics, just how much sinophobia can fit into this thing? die commie https://youtu.be/nHGERJmIevM chinese concentration camp https://youtu.be/itvVDmQ3vHU more racism https://youtu.be/WFH0UDr7Qsc
I propose a general ban on all fallout discussion because fallout is the biggest chud gaming series in existence. (lol not really just dislike the politics of these games, and bugs, janky controls, and je sawyer being a rapist)
Liberty Prime, the pinnacle of pre-war propaganda and American Imperialism, is used to wipe out the last trace of the U.S. government instead of purging commies.
It's even funnier than that because it has about as much combat effectiveness as a tank, but it's bigger, slower, and represented decades and decades of labor to get it working in the first place. And what does it do? It smashes some unsupported infantry who lacked anti-tank weapons (with the added irony that they're fighting for the remnants of the pre-war US's fascist government and ruling class), then was summarily destroyed by a glorified artillery strike.
It seems like it should be absolutely perfect from a narrative standpoint: you have this ridiculous high-tech boondoggle designed and partially completed by a fascist hegemon who despite having much more functional and effective ground weapons platforms between power armored infantry and tanks still wanted to build bigger and more excessive weapons, it consumes massive resources and labor from a technofascist cult who spend literal decades slowly getting worn down and splintering while trying to get it working, and then its entire active service consists of stomping on unsupported infantry before dying the literal second it comes up against combined arms tactics. It's a perfect parallel for the sort of high-tech military fetishism the US does where they use billion dollar planes that consume hundreds of hours of mechanical labor for every hour it spends in the air to drop hundreds of thousands of dollars in missiles on a handful of unsupported light infantry with a few hundred dollars of rifles between them, and they still get shit like the planes just crashing on their own or a stealth bomber getting shot down with fucking flack cannons of all things.
But they royally fucked up the presentation given the takeaway so many people have is literally "wow cool robot" and unironic worship of liberty prime.
Is this a bit or do you seriously not get that it’s making fun of 50s Americana?
Its not satirical enough so it just dips into 50s zeerust nostalgia instead.
It could not possibly be more satirical. And even if it were it wouldnt matter, most chuds know it's satire but are reappropriating the imagery and framing it as cool.
If this is the part where you say we should stop making satire or art that could conceivably be appropriated or misinterpreted by bad actors dont, and go outside instead.
Blame Bethesda for that, as they were the ones to play up the 50s nostalgia in Fallout 3. Fallout 2 was way less serious than 1, but it, its sequel and New Vegas are amazing games.
it’s a great pretty classic case of idiots seeing satire/social commentary and only experiencing it on surface level.
The reactionaries and capitalists are basically always the villains in the series.
Just mod the NCR in New Vegas to have Soviet aesthetics and boom, problem solved.
The Bethesda games don't do it well but the original Fallout games have great politics
I thought witcher 3 did a great job showing how shitty war is for people. That impression doesn't really stay with you as you keep playing but I still think it deserves some credit.
Overrated? Kinda. I still enjoy the interplay ones and NV a lot. Reactionary Garbage? Nah, if anything it's only because most g*mers are libs or chuds that can't think beyond the superficial aesthetics and "ooh, cool robot". That doesn't make the games reactionary though.
Yeah I'm with you. People always discuss some shitty Bethesda knock-offs instead actual Fallout anyway.
Ngl it helps deprogram alot of the pro capitalist propaganda in me. Like its obviously borderline satirical.
