    I have a theory.

Who visited Ukraine in 2013? John McCain. Therefore, he has some attachment to the country.

He lost the presidential race to Obama and Biden, however, he seemed to harbor no major resentment towards them afterwards, and denounced people opposing Obama because he was black. So, once he died in 2018, he has some attachment to Ukraine and would want to protect both Obama/Biden and Ukraine simultaneously. Additionally, Hunter Biden has deals in Ukraine, and McCain would want to defend them.

John McCain was a pilot in the Vietnam War. I think you know where I'm going with this.

The Ghost of Kiev literally is a ghost - it's John McCain piloting the aircraft. It then crashed within a day because he got no better at piloting planes in the afterlife, it turns out.

God damn you to hell Mikhail Gorbachev

    This is on you

You devolved power and unleashed Yeltsin on the whole Soviet people, opening the nationalist cauldron everywhere

Ukrainian nationalism vs Russian nationalism, the fact that that's even an issue is a testament to your failure you arrogant bastard

Yep and even contemporaneously, opposition to the war in Vietnam in the US (that wasn't explicitly communist at least) centered entirely on basically "draft bad" and rarely talked about the Vietnamese experience. Hell, the most popular protest song (Fortunate Son) basically just complains that the working class was being sent there but not the kids of rich folks. While true, it still completely ignores the horrific war crimes that were going on.

And I would imagine it would be impossible to be a part of the world not within the imperial and not see and think a lot about the parallels in what's going on with your own experience.

it is crazy to think that less than 50 years ago those white workers in these 2 countries had given so much support to helping Vietnam in its struggle. Had stood together with the oppressed elsewhere......it feels like that didn't even happen sometimes when looking at them today.

Perhaps the rest of you can lead us to a new world but I’m done caring about “workers” in the west. They can go fuck themselves

Everything you said here. I’m from China, and this has become my conclusion as well. It’s been a slow awakening. Still trying to figure out what positive role I can play in my position because moving back to China isn’t really possible. Your anger and despair are so extremely justified.

Same here. Have lived in the US and my shithole country. Still live in said shithole country and was not impressed with what I saw of the US left. There were exceptions that stood out and genuinely impressed me, but a disappointingly large number were just radlibs with a revolutionary aesthetic that still fell for the propaganda.

Seeing all this love and sympathy pour out instantly to Ukranians

Remember that the love and sympathy is only for the Ukrainians under the Nato friendly government. There's been absolutely no love and sympathy towards the Ukrainians in Lugansk and Donetsk, neither now nor for the last 8 years.

I had this wild thought earlier today: We literally will never know how many troops died in this war.

Russia has been painted as always lying in the media. Nobody will believe a number they give no matter how accurate it is. If they give too high a number, the libs will say it's sympathy bait. If it's too low, the libs will dismiss it as propaganda.

The Ukranians, on the other hand, have a vested interest in lying and will likely print a massively inflated figure of enemy deaths and a massively lowered count of their own deaths, to make it look like they bodied Russia. Nobody will question these figures of course, and to do so would make one a pariah.

    Pretty fucken grim.

I’m posting a lot for me but I do feel like even though the US isn’t directly involved it feels like an Iraq war moment in the sense that I didn’t realize how bloodthirsty Americans are. I was a kid when 9/11 / Iraq started but I seriously respect anyone who held the line back the because a lot of friends and family members who I thought were progressive (but still not ML) have tried to make me feel guilty this week

Interpret this is in any way you want, but I'm an Arab Muslim and all Arabs and Muslims that I know are extremely angry and sad over the Western hypocritical response to this and are supporting Russia as a fuck you to the west

If reddit were a person I’d shoot them. Stupid fucking Americans gloating that Russia is losing to backwards Ukraine so a confrontation with NATO would obviously result in overwhelming victory for the west. Those stupid Slavs can’t even maintain their own equipment right guys??? Jesus Christ this country is the fourth reich and our death drive is through the roof. There’s a tree in the road and we’re not even debating about whether to hit the brake were all racing to floor the gas and slam into it as hard as fucking possible. We almost deserve nuclear hellfire the sheer hubris to think we have the right to destroy the world over for the sake of swinging our dicks around

Do Americans really care about Ukraine or is it some kind of bizarre propaganda misfire? Half of Americans couldn't point to Ukraine on a map now I'm supposed to believe there's some kind of international cheerleading effort? Or is it just Russia bad mentality

Apparently Kyiv mayor called the associate press a russian Internet publication, because they said Kyiv was encircled by Russian troops
