Something about how the setting of every "cozy game" is some sort of pocket dimension where the concepts of society and conflict don't exist is unnerving to me.

When it comes to being cozy I think wanting a respite from conflict or our hellish society is understandable comfy

I mean yeah but the proliferation of escapist media signals the want to resign and fully embrace the spectacle.

Well I mean you said above that's it is wanting a respite from conflict and our hellish society. That people want to not take on hardship or injustice and just escape into virtual utopias... I might be getting too deep into my head though :/

I think people just need a breather, Idk, which is allowed probably. If you subject yourself to hellworld 24/7 you will be ground to nothing. I dunno, is escapism an infantile disorder?

Yeah I do agree that people need breathers but i guess what I'm saying is we should examine why things like animal crossing and stardew valley are popular and that they shouldn't evade critique because they're not overtly problematic

They're just another form of escapist slop. And since we live in a capitalist society, the escapist slop is also designed to indoctrinate you into accepting the capitalist world order. The pocket dimension aspect of it is just conditioning people to accept atomization as a good thing. Everyone should live in their own individual pocket dimension bubble with no other independent actor in that bubble. But we live in a interconnected society (which itself is embedded within a historical, geographical, and biospheric context) with contradictions within that society. Living in that interconnected society will not always be cozy because conflict is inevitable.
