yeah. i live in the uk and have just committed to diy hrt because i don't want to deal with the nhs

nothing like the mandatory sterilisation that i know exists (existed?) in some parts of scandinavia though

Finland wanted you to be sterile before allowing you to change your gender, they literally just changed the law before I legally got the diagnosis finalized so that was great.

also if you bring this up to the doctors they're like "so-true Well HRT makes you sterile anyway." which is a hilarious way to miss the point. Also it definitely wasnt forceful sterilization because no one was forcing you to do it! Being deadnamed and misgendered forever is totally a cool price to pay for not wanting to be sterile. mario-thumbs-up

Are DOCTORS really pushing the hrt-makes-you-sterile lie, I'm not even shocked just really disappointed

The healthcare staff in charge of gender affirming care in the Nordic countries are honestly wack. I heard a story from a trans woman here in Denmark at one of the gender clinics who was recommended a circumcision instead of an orchiectomy to alleviate dysphoria when she specifically wanted to get a referral for an orchiectomy😵‍💫

Yaa they are truly awful. They can’t be trusted and the usual way to go about it is to never disclose anything unnecessary. Especially when it comes to the approval process here you should never disclose any mental health issues as you are then likely to be denied gender affirming care.

I was met with a threatening attitude from the doctor at the clinic I go to for DIYing. She told me that if I didn’t follow their HRT regimen it could have consequences.

That type of person is downright fucking evil. I really think illegal-to-say

It's so fucking stupid too because of course dysphoria and such cause mental health problems, transition helps that!!! And plus people just have mental health issues unrelated sometimes, needing a clean bill of health is pure gatekeeper dogshit.

OVER THE COUNTER lets-fucking-go but ime that is usually the case, many doctors are outright incompetent.

Can confirm. I'm a med student here in Denmark and my fellow students know nothing about trans people. I know some straight up transphobes studying medicine too, but mostly I've just heard ignorant/misinformed takes, although luckily it's not something that's talked about often.

honestly as long as they keep the hrt coming and the bottom surgeon isnt a fucking intern I'll manage

once the wait times are over anyway shrug-outta-hecks

      transphobia

They quit doing that less than a decade ago in Norway and the only public way to get HRT or surgery for most is to go through the same transphobic institution that was responsible for that policy, and most of the same assholes still work there now as back then.

I've just accepted that I'll have to be on DIY forever and never get bottom surgery because I wouldn't let any of the freaks who work there near me with a knife anyway.

Luckily, here in Denmark they loosened up in regards to IDs so you can change your gender marker and legal gender without any restrictions except for a 6 month waiting period to think it over😩, but it might not last as our 'minister of equality' recently wrote an awful transphobic article in some terrible news media. But ya on all points pertaining to gender affirming care it's awful here😭
