DEMOS (Dialogovaya Edinaya Mobilnaya Operatsionnaya Sistema: Russian: Диалоговая Единая Мобильная Операционная Система, ДЕМОС, lit. 'Interactive Unified Portable Operating System') is a Unix-like operating system developed in the Soviet Union. It is derived from Berkeley Software Distribution (BSD) Unix.
It's development was initiated in the Kurchatov Institute of Atomic Energy in Moscow in 1982, and development continued in cooperation from other institutes, and commercialized by DEMOS Co-operative which employed most key contributors to DEMOS and to its earlier alternative, MNOS (a clone of Version 6 Unix). MNOS and DEMOS version 1.x were gradually merged from 1986 until 1990, leaving the joint OS, DEMOS version 2.x, with support for different Cyrillic script character encoding (charsets) (KOI-8 and U-code, used in DEMOS 1 and MNOS, respectively).
Initially it was developed for SM-4 (a PDP-11/40 clone) and SM-1600. Later it was ported to Elektronika-1082, BESM, ES EVM, clones of VAX-11 (SM-1700), and several other platforms, including PC/XT, Elektronika-85 (a clone of DEC Professional), and several Motorola 68020-based microcomputers.
The development of DEMOS effectively ceased in 1991, when the second project of the DEMOS team, RELCOM, took priority.
An archive of the DEMOS source code can found here: https://github.com/bpr97050/DEMOS There's some interesting comments and mailing list archives in that repository as well. :)

oh it's gonna take a second for sure but once you start really immersing yourself in these concepts, you're gonna start seeing them in your day to day life. best friends, moirails. if you've been in a large enough friend group you probably know two people who really don't like each other and have to have an intermediary, auspistices. obviously we know about human love, matesprits but it takes quite a bit to be infatuated with someone who intensely annoys you in a way that makes you question your own flaws
spoiler
i confess that I think the draw for me to moirails specifically was that i've been feeling a need for a strong platonic connection for a while - someone who i'd consider a "best friend." there's a diamond shaped hole in me or whatever lol
i currently don't have much of a friend group (just a friend or two and some acquaintances I Board Game with once every couple of months) but thinking back to the past it does make sense!! i wonder how [homestuck creator] came up with this - is this a thing that most people are like or is it just some of us that work like this?
I'm curious about this ... what do you mean?

lol i heavily relate to the diamond-shaped hole. without getting too deep into it that's something i intensely desire and need to feel on some level.
i think every quadrant has some real-life basis to it because i've been in all of the quadrants on some level. like to explain kismesissitude and blackrom stuff in general, think about the relationship between vriska and terezi. they basically almost killed each other, always argued, but kept pushing each other further and further into their ideal versions of themselves. it's like a rivalry that involves some level of affection/romantic attraction through conflict. the problem is that it's incredibly volatile and spills over into actual vitriol really easily which is what happened with me lol

I thinkI've defs felt the redrom (but I think for me it's kinda atypical), definitely felt the pale and ashen (briefly), but I've been wondering if I'd had blackrom-like relationships like that in the past, but nothing comes to mind at the moment. But that's really interesting - someone pushing you into an ideal version of yourself I think that kind of antagonistic relationship would be really stressful for me, if I'm honest. And yeah the volatility makes sense too.spoiler
yeah it's not supposed to be healthy in like a human sense. it's like goku and vegeta but they're fucking. from personal experience it is incredibly stressful and incredibly rewarding
might be nice to swap stories sometime if you are interested :3
for sure! that would be fun
