Technically it's still called chapo chat, the mods don't actually have the authority to change the name since the articles of confederation were never truly repealed

There was a time I was happy to tell a few people that r/chapotraphouse had a lifeboat community.

Then we promptly had a cat struggle session and I'm pretty sure it's all been downhill from there lmao.

"I just can't figure out why the left won't unite/can't appeal to a broader audience. What do you mean shooting your cat was alienating? Keep complaining and you're next colonist sympathizer."

Lmao like holy fuck the CIA doesn't even have to try if outdoor cats is all it takes to make our first split. This is an unpopular opinion but building power will require creating some problematic coalitions, at least in the near term. We're going to have to find a way to live with outdoor cat owners, among others.

Better to abandon this place as a tool for doing that then. That's literally impossible here. Still got some fire memes from time to time

We should refer to the users as "Ursaphiles"

Really lean into the unsavory connotations around bears on the internet.

I will never say the words hexbear out loud to another person. The amount of pedobear imagery that conjures with associated obscure forums of radicalized political users is not comfy.

Good mascot, good in-joke, bad bad site name and brand.

Hexbear is literally the dumbest fucking name. It's that close to pedobear and the animal meme is beaten to death

In future site history there will be elitism about who still calls the site ChapoChat vs who calls it Hexbear.

Been trying to call it hexbear but difficult to sound well in spanish. Most of my family ask if I'm still on chapo talking to my friends. "Hablas con tu chapo" more or less.

Thanks, they have a high opinion of y'all because they see me trying new dishes, getting tech advice, playing dnd, and generally being like weeks ahead of the news. Never really explained the site well to them, they got no clue of the podcast and just think y'all are some of the smartest kindest people ever.

generally being like weeks ahead of the news

Marxism gives you the closest thing you can get to actually divining the future I swear.

Yep I've had people come to me all spooked when I predicted the capitol riot like 3 months in advance and when I was proven right about a bunch of the shit Biden has done/not done. It's disheartening how many Americans have nothing even close to resembling any sort of materialist thinking.

            weeks ahead of the news

Nothing has made me feel like a Cassandra more than when everyone was :shocked-pikachu: when the insurrection happened on Jan 6th. They'd been planning that in the open for weeks, if not months!

The podcast okay at times but was hooked just lurking on the subreddit. Watching and taking in the scene was fun but not until this place that I decided to make an account. Always wanted to comment back when lurking but that meant I would have to make a reddit account and I thought that wasn't worth it.

Now see that would have been the smart thing to do instead been trying to say Hexbear but with a Spanish accent 😔

      this is what I do

to anyone who doesn't know what it is, it sounds like some social media or dating site they've never heard of, like maybe something a normal person would be on

This is the best name. It doesn’t attempt to deny that the community was born of a cringe lib podcast, and it sounds cute and normal enough that anyone trying to demonize it will seem kinda ridiculous.

  • bananon [he/him]

I call it hexbear now. It’s still not amazing but the most vocal detractors make even worse alternative names like communismwillwin.ussr. If you think hexbear is bad for marketing then that’s on another level. I like Ursa because it’s simple, but it might be too common for notoriety. Ursagon maintains the reference to the hexagon, but it sounds too much like Polygon IMO.

    Ursex is just funny
