Mass shootings are common enough that most don't make the news. I think the FBI defines them as more than 3 casualties in a non-gang-related shooting event.
I'd bet you that CNN isn't excluding gang related incidents, which for what it's worth tend to lull in winter and come back in spring, so "the past month" being the beginning of spring, here's what you get.

It's almost like CNN (and liberal, capitalist media, generally) is giving inordinate attention to an issue that doesn't actually affect many people!
I feel like this is like how armies in past used to fight battles after harvest season but instead of harvest season it was too cold in the winter to merc people
