An argentinean friend of mine, was complaining about the lack of gas oil in gas stations on Argentina and said "we're literally Venezuela!!" and I was like my dude, if Venezuela have problems, lack of gas oil is not one of them, you cannot use Venezuela as an example for everything you don't like.

Entirely possible since it's the oil cartels that tend to maintain a monopoly on the means of production for petroleum products.

Also fun fact Alaska is similar to Venezuela in the fact that we rely on our oil reserves to the point our economy crashes when oil prices crash, and we have to ship our oil out to get it refined.

I know a few graphic designers and they're STRUGGLING for work right now. It's horrible out there for them. They're available! They will absolutely make great graphics! But yeah you do kinda have to pay them and capitalists hate paying people so here we are

I mean I'm presuming they're paying this guy, it's just apparently to argue with a computer a lot.

This is what "technology = good" gets you in the end. You pay a guy to argue with a computer for no discernible reason when you could just pay some guy to do thing, and it's all because technology is understood as magic better thing instead of, you know, what it is, and it AI is fucking terrible at concept art as @thisonethatone points out

also there could even be a middle ground if the issue is adjustments a graphic designer could make the adjustments

As someone who has commissioned artwork and who has tried out the AI """art""" generators... it doesn't even begin to compare. The only way I can possibly imagine someone thinking an AI """art""" generator could replace real artists is if they've never ever worked with any artist ever.

    fuck-around

Idk if I'm even totally against this guy, because what he's complaining about is the same thing that makes YouTube copywrite strikes so annoying.

Not like the stuff getting censored is indie creative stuff on DeviantArt. This is guaranteed "You can't use a keyword that might upset Disney" tier censorship.

    It's classic enshittification, either way.

AI generated art fucks me up, because something like this can occur on a whim. 10 years ago if i saw this, i would be like, "wow, what drove a talented artist to go through all the trouble to render this detailed vision?"

It can at least be created on a whim now. There was still process involved between a group of people and working with the tool itself. It probably doesn't look anything like the process involved in what you're describing though, more like an ongoing conversation amongst allies critiquing implementations of censorship for corporate interests. Lol, for example, the first rendering involved the bear holding a bowl of chocolate pudding too. The only way it would render the image without the bear also holding a bowl of pudding was if it was a magic bear hovering over it's own bowl. xD So potentially less of a profound process than I imagine digital artists 10 years ago were using... but idk. ¯\(ツ)

Lol, just fighting the censorship. Apparently, things pooping is too vulgar, but magically floating above a bowl of chocolate pudding isn't. :D The bear was just what the group I was talking to was using as a subject and wasn't meant as a reference to anything. I think it was along the lines of trying to get it to generate "a bear shitting in the woods"

He is learning the hard way that AI is terrible for concept art.

AI can only create things that are a mash up of already available ideas, but if you want to create something new and specific to a vision it with turnarounds/details no, it's not going to do it. It is incapable of making small adjustments specific to a vision.

I like to use AI when working on my art specifically as an idea and reference generator. The AI can act as a fun way to jog the brain and come up with new ideas- but I have never been able to get it to give me exactly what I'm looking for.

I want an AI that can intake like 10 drawn pictures of people and then animate an entire cartoon movie. I feel like this is a pretty doable thing tbh

I also spend hours arguing with the AI

Imagine arguing with a bunch of if...then statements.... Ted was right.

That still leaves open the interpretation that the human mind also is a bunch of if...then statements. Better to point out how it’s not really “intelligence” but closer to a sentiment analyzer with a lot of data
