My poor naive liberal mother wanted to make sure she "heard all the context" surrounding the pledges of "two thousand dollars"

Like mom the context is what I am telling you. From Osoff to Warnock to Biden himself they all said the word "TWO" followed by the words "Thousand" and "Dollars." It was crucially, and I want to stress this, more money than Trump had thusfar delivered.

Even the democrats aren't dumb enough to campaign for less than the other guy offered. That's political suicide. No these are democrats. They are going to lie to you and then fall short after elected. Much more politically rational.

I used to be one of those people saying they never promised $2000 checks, just to top off Trump checks to equal $2000.

This ad and the fact that they lowered the threshold so a bunch of people didn’t get any money from Biden changed my mind.

Are you telling me that his history of being an absolute conservative shithead for decades and decades was a better indicator of what he would do as president than some bullshit a committee of spin doctors wrote on a website to get him elected?

    Edit: Insensitive expletive

The pod save boys said the Dem response to losing a bunch of latino voters and black voters at the margins in 2020 is to drift even more to the right. Not a joke or exaggeration, centrists or liberal dems literally only see shifting right as a viable path.

Of course! I swear to god there is a decent chance the Dems roll back abortion language to try to win.

I got a "He's done all he can within the constraints he has to deal with, yOu hAvE tO bE rEaLiStIc" when he can do this pretty much unilaterally.

His only constraint is his own ability to pick up a pen and sign his fucking name. Libs seriously bought into the label of Biden being the second coming of FDR and will reject any notion that he's exactly the same conservative democrat he has been throughout his decades in politics.

I've already seen unironic "I'm glad he's gone back on all his promises, if he actually did anything it would hurt Dem chances in the midterms"

Everyone knows electoralism for the sake of electoralism is the best way to do things, fuck all that having issues and resolutions and shit, just give me 4 years of some smug prick doing nothing while lambasting the last smug prick that did nothing

That's why it's so important to be specific about what he can do now, not just dump on what he is doing. There's also the the point that he could at least be leaning on Congress for more, even if passing it ultimately requires their cooperation.

It was there just so that Biden and pundits could point to it and say "see, Biden also has plans, just like Bernie. But his is more realistic". Even ignoring the fact that it wasn't more realistic, he never intended to do it in the first place.
