My mom the first time she got treated over seas. It literally cost a 1/20th of what it would have in the us.

The crazy thing is even with that first hand experience she still is against healthcare reform

Yup. The cognitive dissonance is wild. Talking about healthcare with her is like that Patrick from sponge Bob meme where she’ll agree with every point right up to the conclusion of socialized healthcare being good and the us’s system is a racket and at the last moment switch back lol

I think at that point the only path forward is to keep pointing out the flaws and let her approach the conclusion herself.

I highly doubt she will. She’s old and my dad is a super chud. They watch fox everyday. I just gotta let them die with their shit ideas lol

Yeah, one of the reasons the Berlin wall fell is that the Soviets kept exchange rates and wages in the eastern bloc high, and West Berlin near the wall is pretty wealthy, and the Westerners going over to the east to visit were also wealthy.

So people thought they'd be living upper-middle class lifestyles and driving BMWs. Didn't work out that way.

lol, I've been to neighborhood produce markets in Cuba. maybe this guy is stunned by all the different boxes of sugary cereals and sodas.

anyway, whenever US reactionaries make these bad faith comparisons, it's always like Cuba compared to some hyper affluent community in Florida. if you compare Cuba to any US friendly island nation in the carribean socioeconomically, Cuba crushes them outright in spite of the vicious sanctions imposed by the US.

anyone who can travel there and do a homestay should. the experience makes it abundantly clear why Cuba's persistence is such a grave threat to capitalist hegemony.

Im looking into Traveling to Cuba as an American and apparently the land of the free over here wants to tell me which hotels I can stay in? Lmao

I see that the restrictions apply to businesses that are directly involved with military or owned in some way by ones that are involved indirectly with it. I love the excuse they give as well:

direct financial transactions would disproportionately benefit such services or personnel at the expense of the Cuban people or private enterprise in Cuba.

The us pretending like it gives a fuck about any “people” lol. It’s wild to me that people believe the lies of this shitty ass country

Lmao of course. I saw the “support for Cuban people” thing bc it’s like the only one that doesn’t involve visiting for professional reasons. Of course it’s some flaccid cultural imperialism thing lmao. :amerikkka:

Annoying. Giving money directly to the Cuban state was like the most based part of going to Cuba lmao

It's almost certainly the same org. I went down the trail of the DPRK grifter that does this exact same thing once, and found just a bundle of CIA fronts and weird ROK religious cults funding it. Also could find no record of the person being a DPRK defector (there's another similar one that is a defector, she left when she was like 9 after her dad was caught drug smuggling and black marketeering on a massive scale.)

The whole “I came from a communist country and I try McDonalds for the first time” on YouTube must be a pretty lucrative grift.

That’s true, but somehow chuds expect a small country to be 100% self sufficient and comparable to a country that’s allowed to participate in global trade.

Cuba's shown itself to be remarkably self-sufficient, long after the USSR collapsed.

But it is never going to be as well-off as the seat of a global empire. Certainly not in terms of the extravagance enjoyed by the elite.

pffft, that's not a real cuban, that's just an actor. REAL cubans are six sided rectangular prisms with all equal length edges
