I mean I know Reddit is pretty bad in general save for a few subreddits, but what happened to this one? I can’t even ask for advice on false positive UA without some stuck up asshole saying I didn’t technically ask a legal question and deriding me.

Christ just help people

r/legaladvice is moderated by a bunch of cops. They've gotten into fights before with actual lawyers because they suppress certain types of advice on the sub.

I’m not surprised by the responses I’ve gotten. These people are some of the most elitist I’ve come across on Reddit. It takes the mindset of a fucking cop to have that level of unwarranted arrogance

They literally come across like it’s their gift from god to be giving ‘your dumb criminal ass’ advice

I really wonder why people want to love lawyers so much in this thread. You guys really find it that far fetched that the armada of sociopaths in law can’t possibly be on reddit giving shitty advice? It’s interesting how much the effect of the glamour of social class has on even leftists.

No, they're not saying it's impossible that lawyers are shitty people, and they're not speculating that because the advice is so shitty the sub must be run by cops. They are passing along the informed position that the sub is literally run by cops.

Yes, the cop takeover was kinda a thing awhile ago. All the real lawyers fled to BadLegalAdvice to mock the terrible advice the cops were giving out.

One memorable case, OP worked in a care facility and a mentally disabled pt was raped. The OP's work demanded he submit a DNA test.

The cops were removing any response mentioning that the company asking you for DNA is explicitly illegal, that the company doesn't have your best interests in mind, that not reporting this to the cops is illegal, that whatever kind of home DNA test they're using for a rape kit probably would fuck up any court case, that it's shady AF not to go to the cops, etc.

Basically every post that wasn't "IF YOU HAVE NOTHING TO HIDE, TAKE THE TEST, YOU DIDN'T DO IT RIGHT" was gone.

Copied this from reddit, about the legal advice moderators

              :yea:

the thread. CW for pedophila (yes, a reddit mod and cop defends pedophila)

Two of the mods who deleted comments in that thread were Cypher_Blue and thepatman. They are both law enforcement officers.

Here is a prior thread where Cypher_Blue posts about performing traffic stops

Thepatman is some kind of federal law enforcement officer. I know that because in this thread I pointed out that Americans could be prosecuted in the USA for sex with minors abroad. He responded by saying he did this kind of law enforcement work for years and I was wrong that all the prosecutors he worked with would disagree with me.

Giving out legal advice to random people on the internet would completely destroy a lawyer's professional indemnity insurance at best, and straight up get them disbarred at worst if found out.

Plus, sociopaths who know the ins and outs of the law tend to have better ways of getting their rocks off than messing around with internet forums. You ever see statistics about drug and alcohol abuse in that industry? Grim shit.

It's run by cops. Actual lawyers and attorneys have been banned for giving advice that goes against the narrative the pigs want to put out.

People dancing around the fact that most lawyers are fucking chuds and the law is fanciful bullshit that can and will target anyone for anything.

The entire law profession is dress up for dickheads.

Probably. I just know every time I’ve asked a question there I’ve gotten rude and snide responses one guy even rudely kept calling me a criminal.

I guess compassionate lawyers are few and far between these days

Instead of going to reddit, I recommend finding a free legal clinic in your area. They are run by well meaning people who actually will listen to you, though it can be crowded and the time short. At the very least they can generally give you advice on basic next steps concerning your matter. I know this is kinda lib advice here, but in lieu of a revolution, it's the best I can give.

(IANAL but employment law cases, especially concerning false positive drug testing are incredibly difficult to claim. All the case law sits firmly in the employers corner with only scant amounts of privacy law protecting employees. Unless you can prove contamination in the screening process, which is difficult and rare, the court will defer to the test and you are boned.)

Not a lawyer, this is not legal advice.

If you are in a union, talk to them. They may be able to provide you with an employment lawyer.

Another comment here has suggested you get in touch with a legal clinic. Strongly agree with that - at the very least they can point you in the right direction for your next step. If you're going to the clinic in person, make sure you bring any relevant documents including your employment agreement and your employer's drug testing policy.

A few points if you're unable to get to a legal clinic:

    • Are you on any prescribed medication that may explain the false positive?
    • does your employment agreement have a policy for disputing UA results? You may be able to ask for a retest.
    • it may be helpful to get an independent test done. However, strongly suggest you get legal advice before you do that.

Also mods can we please have a legal info comm here? The :reddit-logo: one is so shit. Or we could just use this comm I guess.

Most actual lawyers wouldn't be giving out legal advice on the internet because there are more fun ways to get sued and disbarred.

Giving out legal advice anonymously to people on the internet is actually really dangerous for everyone involved. The lawyer is likely violating the ethical rules of the place they practice in, and the "client" is likely receiving inadequate advice based on a poor explanation of the situation.

It's the same thing with how doctors don't tend to give out medical advice over the internet except "go see a doctor". A competent and well meaning lawyer should know that most clients are actually extremely bad at pinpointing what their own legal issues are, which is why lawyers conduct extensive client interviews and review documents before giving advice.

And yeah, if lawyers are in charitable moods they tend to work Pro Bono cases or volunteer at legal aid clinics.

They were being extremely snide and rude never got an answer just left because I couldn’t deal with the arrogant bullshit anymore. That’s why they become lawyers (rich parents, or a belief in the liberal system we live in) and they go through years of indoctrination to ensure those are their views.

I'm not super surprised to hear that tbh, my (admittedly not super long) experience in the legal field has been that people who work in law are pretty much split into like:
50% totally amoral, in it for the biggest payday douchebags
30% chud assholes actively salivating over making the country a worse place
15% feckless liberals ineffectual waving their hands around and saying it isn't their fault "the system is bad"
And the remaining 5% split between absolutely bizarre ancap-adjacent psycho libertarians, and actual left leaning folks trying to help people, although unfortunately there's definitely more of the first than the second.
