Lots of people despise dogs because they're slobbery and messy and you have to spend a ton of time with them otherwise they tear up the furniture. They prefer cats who are independent beings who are equals if not superiors, and if they spend time with you it's because they want to. That's more fulfilling than some dog who has no life outside of me and waits in front of the door for eight hours waiting for me to come home.
