Some choice quotes:
This particular round of rumors has kicked off with a video from Tom Henderson (leaker of recent Battlefield info) from last week. The main big claims from Henderson's video are that expecting GTA 6 to launch in 2023 is likely premature (2024 or 2025 being more likely) and that it will be set in modern day Vice City—the GTA series analog for Miami. Other claims include that the game map will evolve or expand over time, possibly via DLC, and that one of the multiple playable characters will be a woman
G*mers on suicide watch. :gamer-gulag:
Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier got roped into the conversation over on Twitter, saying that "everything Tom Henderson has said about the game matches up with what I've heard." More specifically, Schreier adds that "I haven't seen everything but it's still early in development, it has an evolving/expanding map (which I also reported last year), etc."
Expanding map you say? I wonder how much that's going to cost per DLC :curious-marx:
Another part of Henderson's video claims that "Rockstar Games are focusing very heavily at the moment on employee wellbeing," as one of the reasons for a further off launch date. Last April, Rockstar employees said that crunch culture at the studio is improving from the notable crunch issues that have plagued prior releases.
:doubt: but ya know, they might.
Fucking risky to set a game in modern day Miami and keep delaying it. That shit could be underwater by 2025
I went swimming in GTA5 to look for a shark and was still scared shitless when I found one and it attacked me
Maybe that's what the expanding map means. It's going to be an underwater expansion.
"Modern Vice City"
So a sinking city with collapsing apartment blocks with the largest poverty rate behind Detroit, Baltimore and Cleveland filled with every single alt-right celebrity figure in the country?
The further we get into decline, the more GTA games and will converge with Farcry games
GTA 6 will be the last GTA game. Any concepts beyond it will have to be reworked as Mad Max games.
Imagine a mission hitting golf balls right into Milo Yabadabadoopoulous' teeth
Kotaku reported that they’re trying to reduce crunch time by reducing initial gamesize and expanding it later on.
Lol they had ten years.
Fun fact: The length of time between GTA: Vice City's release and today (2002 to 2021) exceeds the length of time between Vice City's setting of 1986 and its release.
As fun of a setting as Vice City is, I'd be cooler to pick a fresh major city (or maybe even somewhere in the midwest where you have broad expanses of country, like in GTA V, and several smaller cities and towns). Give me fresh slop
They could've done Chicago in a non-boring sterile way that Watchdogs failed in doing.
I had a feeling that would be the setting since we already covered Liberty City and San Andreas/Los Santos. Wonder if there'll be a parody of The Villages in there.
If they do a parody of the Villages, I'd prefer it to be done by smarter writers. I imagine GTA writers would be too ham-fisted about "we're racist old people!"
If they did the villages, there would be at minimum one jump cut to old-people CG models doggy-style pounding the shit out of each other. At minimum.
Very fitting that you used the La Noire Doubt emoji for the part about employee wellbeing, considering how particularly awful that game's development was crunchwise
Modern-day Vice City is a much worse idea than 80s Vice City. I'd prefer Boston, DC, Chicago, or Philadelphia as a location. Or just the entire state of Alderney.
Apparently the OG concept for GTA IV was to have basically the entirety of New York State, bits of Connecticut and a large section of New Jersey.
I'm tired of the constant US satire. We need something new and fresh. Send GTA back to Br*tain!
I'd rather not have a game full of constant unending transphobia at a scale worse than the typical GTA games
you have to do a quick time event genital inspection any time you walk into any public building, and they make all the trans people drink from their own water fountains
This sounds neat but the cynic in me thinks the expanding map is going to be some ridiculously over-monetized thing and the rest of the game will just be forgettable. The driving in Gta V is unsatisfying and what little I remember from the story wasn't very good.
I'm going to say it and I don't care who it offends, folks: women are just not as good at mass murder as men. A female GTA6 protagonist would just be very unrealistic. When it comes to harming and ruining the lives of other human beings, possibly forever, men have that shit DOWN. Checkmate, feminists.
