Like obviously the movie is bad, but my god what a fucking reach. Real yellow peril hours.

In communist China, films that don’t uphold the political positions of the state are ridiculed in the media

He wanted a scene where Bugs Bunny pulled his eyes slanty and started making Chinese noises while Porky Pig told you to "Beedley Beedley buy war bonds!"

The movie's not even being released in China! And the guy admits that in the article. His whole premise falls apart by the third paragraph and he tells you so, then keeps on ranting about Hong Kong.

It's the old man rants at cloud meme but about Bugs Bunny shooting hoops.

He’s got several sponsorships in China and he’s black, so naturally he became an easy target to rail on when he spoke out during BLM because ‘human rights hippo’

HK protestors to start being racist towards him and BLM overall

Nah they were always fucking racists but tried to hold it in to appeal to white libs. These are people who call other Chinese people "locusts" because they were born on the other side of a bullshit border.

Remember how PewDiePie claimed that he's not racist but just happened to yell the N word in his "heated gaming moment"? It's exactly like that. You don't get angry and yell things you've never said before. The HK color revolutionaries didn't "start" hating black people because of Le Bron.

the NBA continues to earn billions of dollars in China, its stars picking up lucrative endorsements amid rampant human rights abuses

Human rights abuses in America are fine though

Does the NBA get credit for earning money amidst all the human rights victories in China? Somehow, all the other, more important human rights besides speech get ignored in the discourse.

Just went thru the article, and the level of cognitive dissonance is wild. Like there are some good and interesting enough observations, but they're all lying on top of a completely baffling premise. Author points out everything that can easily be directed towards cynical capitalist ideology, but decides to do 'China Bad'

Oddly, the “Space Jam” sequel is not currently scheduled for a release in China — Warner Bros. didn’t respond by time of publication to the question of whether it would be — but it bears the sanded-down, quirk-free character of the global film industry for which the country increasingly sets the terms.

Lol. The most hilarious thing to me is that the article in its conclusion is actually about the fact that the whole movie is obviously a product written by committee and algorithm and designed to be easily digestible and apolitical as possible. Putting aside the fact that you can say literally the exact same thing about the original, your issue with that isn't "china" bad, but rather that the demands of the market are completely and totally all consuming!

Sidenote: I don't want to go too down the rabbithole since you can start seeing a CIA op everywhere but man...on reddit especially it seems like every single plotpoint/dialogue/character action anyone has a problem with in any movie somehow has its roots in placating china to the point of absurdity. I've never once seen a source but at one point it was basically universally accepted that the reason you didn't see more force ghosts in the last star wars movie is that China has banned depictions of them. I'm pretty sure that's nonsense but seriously...how does shit like that even get momentum???

Like basically at this point if you don't like 'Revengers Ultimatum final act requiem episode 12' or whatever its because communist hollywood had to placate china and the SJWs. Really scary groupthink propaganda shit.

It's a real chickenshit article. Yeah the NBA players protested police brutality and guess what? The fans booed them for it. Even if players like Lebron don't secretly hate a lot of these people I have no idea why you'd think he would give up revenue from China for them.

It's not Real Capitalism unless a White Nationalist benefits.

I'm honestly surprised the psychos that run the league haven't come down harder. But I guess there's a limit to what they can do with the biggest money makers, like LeBraun.
