My dad is like that. "Just get three jobs and buy a house at 19! I do not know why you are paying over $1,000 in rent! My mortgage is a nickel! Yes, I did get it 35 years ago..."

Can’t wait to be told I’m lucky to rent a shipping container to live in when the alternative is living in a rented van

its wild to me that we even need insurance on cars in america. it should be a publicly owned insurance organization that deals with all the cars. would be way cheaper. especially considering the society is built around cars.

or we could just put train tracks on every highway and melt the cars down to make trains

More and more Americans are choosing to sleep under their desks. Here's why that's a good thing.

Was able to save for the last decade to buy a house earlier this year and was thinking about how I'll probably be the last generation that gets to own real full houses. This news does not bring me joy

same. and i just found a doublewide on it's own land. somehow the "always depreciating" mobile home is worth twice what i paid for it now. first and last house ever i guess.

The scam with mobile homes is that you might be paying the loan on the depreciating asset (the physical unit) but paying rent (which probably goes up every year) on the appreciating asset (the land). If you're not renting the land, you're probably going to have a good time.

I feel like the only houses even remotely attainable going forward will be hastily constructed particle board monstrosities that will fall over in a strong breeze

Just a reminder that 90% of Cubans own the place they live in. All while Sleepy Joe blasts them for being a failed, repressive system.

Papa, I dream of a land of indentured servitude, a place of never-ending debt slavery and hyper-aggressive competition, where the moment I can no longer participate in the economy I discarded like trash.
